his boxing skills are completely overrated. he does less clinching against complete bums but against the 2 best fighters he faced in Kessler(early in his career) and Kovalev, he went straight UFC.

it has nothing to do with him losing athletic ability .... it has to do with his overrated skills as a boxer.

    his offense is terrible.
He might have always been a clinch spammer. But he has lost explosiveness no doubt which makes him spam clinches even more now

As of now hes actually kind of overrated, super six ward was a top p4p fighter this version is like a watered down clinch machine without any power.
Totally agree with this post. He's definitely lost a step, Stevie Wonder could see it, the injuries and inactivity have taken their toll. He is not the fighter he was pre-2014 physically, he has to kid his way through fights now, its a credit to his ring IQ that he can do that.

Its weird saying he is not one of the top dogs anymore because he just went tough with Kovalev, but I can't help but feel the same as you that he isn't on the level of the best guys p4p. You could see it in the Smith, Barrera, and Brand fights, not just Kovalev.

Looking at all those videos you see how similar Kell Brook does the same type of holding.

Now in the same fight lets see how many times Kov initiated a clinch

              That does fit their agenda.

it's a mental illness at this point.
It not a head butt that he is looking for, he is pushing his shoulder into the other guys chest to get them out of balance and smother their punches. He goes so low and comes up so close that he winds up headbutting his foe

kovalev is the one trying to throw hands. ward is the one trying to smother his work. has kovalev ever been known as a clincher? who is the common denominator here?

if you can't see that at this point of the game then it's time to check into a psyche ward.

He just lacks the skills to beat a fighter that has lost a step.
