At his best (which wasn't the Kovalev fight) he was the best inside fighter in the game, he knew all the tricks of the trade and he was very athletic. The current version is a slower more flatfooted version and he didn't use even a quarter of the inside fighting tricks/skills that he used earlier in his career against Kessler and Forch for example against Kovalev. He fought Kovalev at range and he lost as a result, let's see if he'll make the necessary adjustments in the rematch and get back to his old self, that's all he has to do.
Kovalev on the other hand has to make inside fighting a painful experience for Ward to force Ward to fight on the outside, that's where Kovalev has the advantage with his superior jab and the very long right hand, he did that in the first fight, let's see if he can do it this time around more consistently. Kovalev needs to be extremely rough on the inside and to foul if he can to force Ward to fight from a distance.
Clinching, head control and moving your head to safe locations on the inside are inside fighting skills that were utilized by all the greats including Robinson, Duran and many others. This is not a pillow fight, this is boxing!Comment

incorrect. he was fouling much worse in the Kessler fight.
2 of his best opponents are Kessler(version that beat Froch) and Kovalev.
in both fights, he fouled to a ridiculous degree.
his inside game is garbage. Has he finished any fighters with inside body work? no..... it's pure grappling and holding and hitting. completely illegal tactics.Comment

that isnt boxing to me. boxing is about throwing punches not ****ing hugging. i thought clinching was illegal? is it one rule for ward and one rule for everyone else? Man this guy would be up **** creek if there was ever a fair referee in place....Comment
