Guys come on, Mayweather is your biggest supporter in the world AFTER he beats you. The better you do, the more he can say "See, I beat that guy who just won, that's how great I am."

This is not an honest appraisal, it is self obsessed self promotion. Of course Mayweather is going to say that the guy he beat is better than the guy that some people would say he is avoiding. In the same sentence Mayweather says he beats Golovkin easy but that he (Mayweather) was never really a 154 pounder. So what does that mean? Mayweather might as well say that he beats Anthony Joshua easy, it's meaningless.

I don't know if Golovkin makes a lot mistakes but he has vulnerabilities because of his fighting style. Canelo can match him punch for punch whether he decides to stalk or box. He can also disrupt his game plan by being accurate and using a persistent body attack.

I think Mayweather is being honest because whether he admits it or not he studies other boxers and he's been in there Canelo.
