Comments Thread For: Mike Perez Eager To Impress in The Cruiserweight Ranks

Mike Perez is promising to put it all on the line as he faces a crunch Cruiserweight clash against Tommy McCarthy at the SSE Arena Belfast on Saturday June 10, live on Sky Sports. Perez makes his debut at 200lbs and goes straight into the Lion's Den against hometown favourite, McCarthy, who is looking to bounce back to winning ways having been outpointed by recently crowned British champion Matty Askin in November.

What??? I'm beyond shocked that Perez is fighting at 200 lbs. I have no idea what to expect out of him at that weight considering he used to fight between 230 and 240 I believe. Definitely going to be keeping my eye on this one

I had no idea he was moving down in weight. This could be a very good move for him. He's not that tall and was quite flabby at HW. He has good skills and decent power. Should be good to watch

Very happy for him, with his skill set he could become an undisputed cruiserweight champion.

          WOW.

If he makes the weight and is still strong, the whole division better look out.

I saw that on the schedule & thought it was a mixup or something. Had to make sure it was THAT Mike Perez. Weird f#cking fight. Perez hasn't been the same since the Magomed incident + HW to CW drops don't usually go that well so I don't hate McCarthy's chances here to be honest. If he's as HUGE a dog as I suspect he would be I might even throw something on him.

Think Orlin Norris is the only HW going down to CW guy that I recall doing really well & that's when HW was competitive & CW was dead iirc. Right now CW is competitive & HW was a one man show & is just starting to get interesting so if he wasn't making moves at HW before when it was up for grabs as far as getting a title shot anyway idk that I see him doing much with the guys at 200.

Pre-Magomed Perez yea. Current Perez I'm not so confident in. Current Perez hasn't even fought for 2 years & is 1-2-1 since the Magomed fight in 2013.

I think he wins this fight, but I don't love his chances vs the Usyk's & Gassiev's at 200.

We'll see doe. Hopefully he looks good vs this comeback fight vs a guy he would seemingly wipe the floor easily at his best.

Maybe he'll jump into the WBSS and build his name up down there.

I didn't know he was moving to CW. Interesting.

I was actually just reading that he was sparring with Joe Joyce for his upcoming fight :

The first day was like a war. We were both knocking lumps out of each other. The second one was more technical and tactical and the last spar I was really finding my range and putting in some good work,” Joe said. “He’s very skillful, obviously a bit rusty because I don’t think he’s had much good quality sparring but very skillful. So a good experience.”

Perez would need to change his style and grow a lot as a fighter. Povetkin made him look like a low ranking hobo. Slow hands wide punches zero defense slow reflexes weak chin.......Compare Cuban southpaw HW Ortiz to Cuban southpaw HW Perez huge difference same style.
