To be fair Povetkin caught him with like the first punch in the fight. Povetkin is the better fighter but Perez was just caught cold that night.

Dropping down from HW did not work for Roy Jones, Chris Byrd or Eddie Chambers. The punches are simply coming faster than what he is use to. He has been fighting bigger & slower men. I don't see the experiment going well. He was a decent HW & as others have mentioned he hasn't really been the same since the Abdusalamov fight.

I don't think he was in great shape either. If I recall he was heavier than normal. Better fighter than he showed that night in my opinion...

The comments above are made by people who clearly have no knowledge of Perez, who is a beast at HW when his desire is there. That Magomed bout changed him, but Mike is a destroyer with great skill. NO, povetkin is not a better fighter that Perez, he just had an uninterested Perez in front of him. Perez is hands down more skill full than povetkin will ever be. Perez will dominate the cruisers.

Rooting pretty hard for a Perez comeback. Total beast that got his head messed with after the Mago fight.

I hope so because he was a pretty small HW. He looked like a blown up CW when he fought Takam. Takam at a solid 250 started walking through his punches by the 5th round & totally changed that fight after Perez won the first half. He never looked good again from that point on. When he stepped up he lost to Povetkin & Jennings. Perez is a good fighter but I don't think he was big enough nor do I think he punched hard enough to beat the top tier of HWs. I have lots of his fights. He beat a few good journeymen like Ahunanya, Fields, Abdusalamov & Travis Walker. His 3 step up fights he was 0-2-1. Like I said the 6th round of the Takam fight was when things changed for him. He is B level in the HW division. I doubt he can just waltz into the CW division & dominate. As I said before it didn't work for Jones, Byrd or Chambers. Why should it work for him? The 3 guys I listed were all smaller & faster than Perez.

After the Magomed fight this dude lost a lot of drive. Hopefully he can bounce back if he is working hard enough that he can make cruiserweight that is a very good sign.
