But he's suffered heavy knockdowns such as the one against Ovil McKenzie, Makubu, and gone for it.

When Bellew says Kell will be kicking himself I reckon he might be right but absolutely nobody else in Kell's family or inner circle will feel the same way. For me he was incapacitated and even tried his last hurrah in round 10.

Bellew has would likely live up to his own words. But that's not a normal thing. It's extraordinary.
Im certain if Kell Brook were put in Bellews position in those fights he would have also fought on.
Its different when you have a broken eye socket for the 2nd time, he probably remembered how bad it was the first time and all he had to go through with surgery and all.
Probably didnt want to go through with that again, knowing him going blind was actually a possibility
IMO he did the right thing and lived to fight for another day.

I agree regarding levels of injury. Bellew has said this kind of thing before though.

I think you would have to nail that guy to the floor.

I don't think that is the right thing by the way because Bellew knows the implications of what he is saying.

Ehh.. Broken eye sockets are no joke. Everyone has a different pain threshold, so comparing to Paulie doesn't mean much. If you can fight through it, by all means, but I would never get mad at someone for not continuing because of it

**** move by Bellew. Each fighter reacts differently to injuries. Coming into this fight we didn't know where Brook would be physically and mentally after the GGG fight. He fought his heart out until it was obvious he was overmatched. Looking at the scorecards we can say he made the right choice, he was going to lose a decision anyway, so it turned out for the best that he didn't risk further injury. Maybe Bellew and some of the casuals would have been happy if Brook ended up like McClellen or Benitez.

Brook should have fought to the final bell

but he knew he was going to get stopped

              he was beaten into submission

combat sports fans expect a lot. can you imagine any other sport with the guys continuing with a broken ***ing eye socket? they would be taken to the doctors immediately. boxing/mma we expect them to not only keep going but also keep getting punched in their broken eye and risk blindness.

did he quit? absolutely. but he had a good reason to imo.

Bellew should know better, doesn't he realize he could be in that position too? Brook didn't quit because it got too tough, ala Ortiz, the man is trying to protect his eyesight.

Maybe I'm just crazy for thinking this way, but I think fighters are entitled to put their quality of life outside the ring above risking their health over the entertainment of people that don't truly care about them.
