Yea, I kinda wonder. The eye got him out of a beating before. It's not unrealistic to think that he subconsciously reverted back to that. The mind can do surprising things to protect the body.

he quit that's the thing , he can say hey I wasn't knocked out I just couldn't see so had to stop the fight its the easy way out , sugar ray leonards eye was shut vs hearns badly he could have quit with the same excuse but no great fighters give it there all and don't make excuses.

I was wondering the same thing. Especially after the fight when his eye wasn't even swollen. His corner knew he was spent and the tape job on the glove was in purpose. Spence was relentless and broke Brook, doesn't matter if he had a hurt eye or not, he was beaten into submission.
