It came from him giving Mayweather a black eye.
Where did Spence's "destined for greatness" rep come from??

it strikes me as strange. i dont understand why he is getting so much more hype than the other guys. is getting 10x the hype of tank yet hes not really done anything more. charlo has proven himself against better opposition too. Americas already got a world class welterweight in thurman yet rather than praise him, people would rather hype spence and see him as the future of the division. And i swear i watch a different spence to everyone else, he doesnt look hugely amazing to me, i think hes always going to be aroundt he world scene but the way he is spoke about, is of him being a true super elite talent. he is absolutely nowhere near the skill level of a young mayweather. looks pretty hittable to me, real frail look about him too. them two combined doesnt usually end well. i think he gets seriously exposed tomorrow night.I first heard about him when he dropped Broner in sparring.
He's not loud, not mean, not a 1-punch monster, not any of the things that tend to generate a lot of superficial hype. But, for a while now, a lot of people have deemed him to be the next big thing. It seems to have started with industry people who have worked with/around him but I'm curious, where did all the "hype" come from?Comment

Fans are so gangsta lol. Catch a L & your legacy just got dropped like a mfer. One of my uni friends that follows boxing used to talk loads about him back in early 2013 saying he's going to be the next star in boxing and I remember boxrecing him and seeing a prospect with 3 or 4 fights, saw he didn't win a medal at the Olympics and wondered "what makes him think Spence is/will be special?" ..... by then no one on here was talking about him and then by 2015 his name started popping up on here and I started YouTubing his fights. I could see he was a quality fighter but it wasn't enough to convince me he would be the next star.
After Steamrolling Bundu and Algieri, I'm still not completely convinced he is the truth but it's hard to ignore the sparring stories with Floyd and Broner but hey those type of stories helped do a lot for GGG's hype and they are doing the same thing for Spence.
Tomorrow is D-day for Spence, we get to see if it's real or not. It's not over if he loses but he'll probably never be seen as "The Truth" again if he does.
I legit think this fight is interesting enough between two guys who NEED to prove more then they have thus far that this has potential to be a really good & competitive fight that could rise both guys' profiles + respect by reasonable boxing fans & pundits win, lose or draw for either guy.Comment

Redd... A+ Troll Thread a rather finesse way to insinuate thingsI first heard about him when he dropped Broner in sparring.

Cmon Errrrl is the definition of All-American. Just bad luck in the Olympics. Surely any African-American athlete winning Golden Gloves as a seasoned Welter is the good to Haymon. I mean look at Thurman, declined to be in a similar position as Spence repn USA and just went pro sooner.
These elite knee deep know what Errol brings as a sparring partner. Found it funny though that he went a tad bit buck wild on Money May in the dog house... Broner too small for Spence anyways, can easily seeing Errrl drop him
Just seems like natural Haymon association if you ask me.Comment

It's pretty strange. Some people even had him in their PFP list....I mean i don't even know how that's possible with the guys he's been in withit strikes me as strange. i dont understand why he is getting so much more hype than the other guys. is getting 10x the hype of tank yet hes not really done anything more. charlo has proven himself against better opposition too. He's a big strong KO artist who looks the part. People always gets excited when offensive minded fighters who look the part start making moves
If he's the real deal he could be a crossover starComment

There's nothing strange about it, what's strange about world class trainers, and fighters, who have no ties to him saying he's the real deal from what they have seen with their own eyes, then turning into hype by fans?
Of course people are going to take notice to something most trainers and boxers don't do and that is go out of their way to praise a guy not linked to them, like they do with Spence.Last edited by CLUE; 05-26-2017, 05:21 PM.Comment

I think it's more promotional hype than anything. Also in general people tend to overrate offensive fighters when they get stoppages over decent, previously unstopped fighters. Eg. Matthysse after Peterson.
A little enthusiasm is fine, but if you're one of the people with him on your P4P list you deserve to be laughed at.Last edited by BrometheusBob.; 05-26-2017, 05:34 PM.Comment
