In the past, former four division world champion Miguel Angel Cotto had stated in several interviews that 2017 would be his final year in the sport. But given the current landscape and the circumstances which caused his career to stall out. Cotto has been out of the ring since November 2015, when he lost a twelve round unanimous decision to Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. He was scheduled to return in February, to face James Kirkland in the main event of an HBO Pay-Per-View. The fight was cancelled after Kirkland withdrew with injury.
