Netflix doesn't want to start bidding for live sports. It's too expensive and it isn't what their subscribers want. It also has very little long term value. Spend a ton of money for events that become practically worthless the second they air. It doesn't fit Netflix's model. Their bread and butter is tech savvy youth who have less interest in sports than previous generations.

As for the lucha libre, it's a lucha libre themed television series they picked up reruns of on the cheap. They don't consider it sports, especially with it being scripted and produced like a TV series, not traditional professional wrestling.

Not Netflix, and not boxing, yet.....but Amazon is getting more into sports, and is now looking stream tennis.

Amazon primed to stream live tennis as internet giants target broadcasting rights to the ATP Masters series

The ATP Masters series, whose contract with Sky expires in 2018, is seen as a serious target. Amazon want to start developing their sports content and as the largest online retailer in the world have the financial resources to challenge for any sports rights that interest them.
Amazon representatives are understood to have been at Wimbledon making contacts in tennis ahead of a potential bid to stream all the major tournaments below the Grand Slams on the Amazon Prime subscription platform. Amazon have already done a deal with the NFL to stream a package of 10 Thursday-night games in 2017.

Amazon and Netflix can do whatever they want when it comes to anything you can watch, especially Netflix.

I didn't know about this news, but I figured Amazon could be a major player for sports.

Twitter is a better way to go. You have tens of millions of people on there at one time and if a topic start[s trending people will check out the trending topic and tune it. You're capturing a wider audience of people who would never had known there was a fight if not for the topic trending. On netflix you're only capturing the people who specifically logged in to watch the fight. Most people only log into netflix when they're looking for a show to watch. You won't catch a lot of stragglers just so happening to tune in.
              great post .

Not sure. Have they ever done a live broadcast of anything? Thought they were just shows and movies. I mean, I hope they bring in boxing, but I'm not sure.

Way to show off your ignorance again.

I don't think so. Literally the only thing the networks have over the streaming sites is live content. They will pay as much as possible not to lose it.
