Comments Thread For: Gary Russell Jr: I Want Santa Cruz, Selby, Mares or Valdez Next

National Harbor - From the MGM National Harbor "Mr." Gary Russell Jr. (28-1, 17 KOs) had a successful homecoming in front of a nearly sold out crowd as he defended his WBC Featherweight World title with a seventh-round stoppage against the very tough, strong-willed Columbian Oscar Escandon (25-3, 17 KOs) in the main event of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING.

I think the "smart" move for Russell would be to fight abner mares.. big name, older, would be a sellout on either coast..

I would let the Valdez fight build alittle longer. Mares could be ripe for the picking

He had plenty of time, now it's getting short. These fights will run out Gary's clock. It makes sense to stall him and they will. He has the pressure, straight ahead guys shaded, maybe he should invade the UK. Warrington, Selby, and Frampton. Rich pickings.

Warrington should pretend not to know he exists as he would get his ass beat severely. Frampton would be a good match up but I think GRJ decisions him.

Invade the UK and take that strap off Lee Selby.

I'd much rather see him fight Gervonta Davis, I think that is the most interesting style clash.

Warrington already got his ass beat badly by Kiko Martinez, he will want a piss easy mandatory after that fight.

There has to be a tournament. I mean this division is loaded with talent right about now. Showtime should do another Super six or something with this current batch of Featherweights.
