I agree. He was on his way out. The first punch had him out. The first punch caused direll to drop his hands.

A 5 min recovery period is not mentioned under the IBF/Unified rules except for low blows, but is in the WBC (p5 article 15) and I believe would have been appropriate in this circumstance.
I also think Uzcategui probably should have got a PT deduction too, in light of the earlier warning, but not a DQ.
Ultimately though it all comes down to the refs interpretation of events - intentional or unintentional - in this case I think he got it wrong.
If the ref decided it was intentional then it's down to discretion whether Dirrell was able to continue but there would be a mandatory 2 PT deduction for Jose if it was ruled he was and a DQ (which is what happened) if he wasn't. The Unified rules are unclear on what would happen if the Ref/Doc said that Dirrell could go on, but Andre had refused, but I would assume he would have forfeited (as he would have under the WBC which are more specific).Last edited by Citizen Koba; 05-21-2017, 03:14 AM.Comment

I feel bad for Andre because he very clearly didn't quit in either of those fights. He got robbed vs Froch then sucker punched by Abraham and this dude who intentionaly hit him after the bell because he was frustrated after he had already been warned for doing it earlier.Comment

you can still hear the bell ringing/reverberating after the last punch lands so how is that after the bell? once again boxing just gets it wrong. no thanks to showtime and biased paulie pretending it was "clearly after the bell"Comment

I like Andre Dirrell, but sorry folks he was looking for a way out!
AT the time of the stoppage he was losing on the cards! Two judges against one draw!
He got his chance of an easy out and took it!
Looks like the referee let his emotions take over!
Fight should have been a no decision!Comment
