So are u trying to say Roy jones pickd weaker fights out theirOriginally posted by rocco1252your right it will never happen because Calzaghe isnt 100% sure he can win so he turns it down thats the way he has been his whole career what makes now any different, hes a RJJ for the Brits. Dont get me wrong I like both RJJ and JC but they both had their teams making the right decisions for them which sometimes and in there case is the wrong decisions because he cant get credit when he beats a b and c class fighter.
k maybe he never faced, Eubank,Nunn or a Benn
But come on RJJ beat the likes off Hopkins and Toney they ant no easy moves
and i would not class LACY as a "amatuer" either i guys thts faced Robin Reid,Omar Sheika and Pemberton ant no amatuer he wants 2 fight Calzaghe, Calzage give him it and the rest is history

LOL who said Jeff Lacy was some great prospect? Jeff Lacy was overrated as hell as Calzaghe proved. If he couldn't even come close to winning a round against Calzaghe, I think it's safe to say Lacy as a contender is pretty much not gonna happen.Comment

Lacy was more than a contender. He was 5-0 with 4 KO's in world title bouts going into the fight with Calzaghe. Why does everyone have to write Lacy off as overrated to explain the Calzaghe fight? Calzaghe is an exceptional fighter, as loathe as most of you are to admit it. Fighters lose. Big deal. Let's see how Lacy comes back from it before we totally write him off. The guy is a really good fighter. I just hope Birmingham didn't ruin him by leaving him in those last 3-4 rounds against Calzaghe. That was brutal and there was really no reason for it, because there was nothing on Lacy's punches. He was just taking punishment, over and over again, for no reason. That can change a fighter forever.
As for Calzaghe-Johnson, Calzaghe is moving up, so more concession is usually asked for out of the bigger man when arranging catchweights. Johnson doesn't have too many big fight options out there, so he should sign at 172 or whatever, even if it's a little harder to make weight he can do it.Comment

Nah, I would go with Johnson in this one. Calzaghe looked great against Lacy, because Lacy just sort of wades into range and hopes to land one big punch. Calzaghe could use his workrate and hand speed to break Lacy down without being forced to do anything he didn't want to do.
With Johnson, he'd get pressured all night and worn down by a guy who is stronger than him. Johnson is a very rough fighter, the kind of guy who Calzaghe would have all kinds of hell against. I'd pick Johnson to break him down and stop him in 10.Comment

a fight with glen johnson wojld not be as easy as the clazaghe fightOriginally posted by JuicyJuiceIf he loses to Tarver, big deal? Tarver is a 6ft3 southpaw (who won't trade for the life of him) and Calzaghe would be moving up in weight.
Tarver is a tough fight for Calzaghe, I certainly wouldn't put money on Joe in that one. But Glencoffe Johnson is a short, come-forward fighter and Calzaghe would pick him off with fast combinations.
johnson won't freeze up
johnson will jab
johnson will thro punches back
johnson will move his headComment

Lacy just "wades into range and hopes to land one big punch"? How many Lacy fights have you seen? That describes Lacy after Round 2 in the Calzaghe fight only. One of the reasons for his success to that point was his power-punch COMBOS. Watch him stop Vanderpool, Reid, and watch him down the stretch against Sheika. He comes in bobbing and rips up with vicious punches. He doesn't "wade in" and he usually looks to land a combo.Originally posted by Asian SensationNah, I would go with Johnson in this one. I really hate how he has one bad performance and everyone tries to rewrite him as a fighter, and make him into less of a fighter than he is.
Glen Johnson is taylor-made for Calzaghe. Calzaghe is simply so much faster and more highly skilled that he walks through this fight fairly easily, I say. Johnson isn't a power puncher, and can't hope to match the activity or handspeed of Calzaghe. Can Johnson outwork him and bull his way through Joe's combos to win enough rounds to win a decision? I don't see it happening. Johnson is a very tough fighter for certain fighters to beat. Tarver and Jones have evolved into low, low activities and were outworked, and outhustled by Johnson in their losses. Roy got hit with a blind punch on the ear, but don't mistake that for Glen having devastating power. He doesn't.
I'm not sure he'll be that much stronger than Joe, either. Joe is a strong SMW. And coming straight in against Joe plays right into his strengths.
Hard-fought but clear UD for Calzaghe.Comment
