An emphatic victory over a superstar like Canelo will thoroughly eclipse Ward getting another iffy gift decision against Kovalev (that's if he wins, which I doubt).

If Ward stops Kovalev or clearly beats him winning 9 clear rounds or more then yes, you can make a case for him being p4p number 1.

But neither of those scenarios are likely. Therefore, as much as it hurts you all. GGG will be universally recognised as the best in the world pound for pound after knocking out Canelo.

There is almost never complete agreement on who is PFP the best. IF GGG wins decisively the true dedicated GGG haters will not recognize him as number 1 pound for pound or even in the top 10. PFP pound ratings are just personal opinion and not fact. Anybody can rate any boxer wherever they want to PFP. There is nothing anyone can do about it.GGG has not yet defeated Canelo and he could just as easily lose to Canelo. The fight is 4 months off. It should be a great fight between my two favorite boxers.

I think a really solid/dominant performance by either of them would make the winner a lock for top spot p4p.

Loma and Crawford wouldn't have wins of that caliber, and unless something really definitive happens between Ward and Kovalev, I don't think it would match up.

Agreed with the fact that he will DEFINITELY go up the ranks and might as well be named as All-Time-Great!

A win over Kovalev is a bigger achievement than a win over Canelo, firstly Kovalev had fought at and destroyed everyone at his weight and Ward moved up and broke his will, multi weight champion. GGG has suffered from a very poor division unlike the two Ward has fought and dominated in. Arguably GGG just lost his last fight too, a win over Canelo won't convince anyone his lack of skill that has eluded him in his last two fights is no longer there.

Like it or not Ward is simply more versatile than GGG, as proven by facing the best in several divisions.

I don't see how a win over Canelo in any manner would propel you above the likes Loma and Crawford let alone the current no.1. The three of them are infinitely more skilled than GGG ever has been or ever will be. The dude is 34 right ? He is not the future of the sport and clearly wants to cash out, do I blame him ? No. Let's not make out he's something he's not though.
