  • Comments Thread For: Peter Fury Confident Hughie Will Get Joseph Parker Title Shot

Hughie Fury's father and trainer, Peter Fury, is adamant his son will get a shot at Joseph Parker's WBO world heavyweight title. The English boxer pulled out of his mandatory challenge for the WBO belt against Parker at the 11th hour last month, citing a back injury as the reason. The 25-year-old Parker then had to fight Romanian Razvan Cojanu in his first title defence - resulting in an unspectacular unanimous decision the way of Parker.

Doesn't deserve it, to be honest.

This whole thing is ridiculous. They fair and square lost the purse bid, showed on a number of occasions they weren't interested in going to NZ, pulled out with a bogus injury...and now they get to go back to the root and re-negotiate.

What's the point of a purse bid if one side can throw their toys out of the cot and get another go?

Pretty sure they are bound by the terms of the original purse bid. I hope Warren isn't able to pull a fast one here.

bad facts man...tyson fury was never undisputed champ! only 3 belt unified champ. the nandrilone allegations were from 2015 not last year! both hughie and tyson got provisionally suspended when the allegations came out but both got their licences back not long after. you gotta get your facts right if you want to be a half decent reporter

Hearing so many conflicting things. Initial word from a WBO official was that the original agreement stands, but then Warren came out talking about re-negotiating..and it seems like each article since then has alluded to another purse bid.

That, and Parker shifting his next fight to the UK, are bad signs for a home-fight in NZ.

I'm with you, I would think they are bound by the original deal - it makes zero sense to do another purse bid. But...anything to do with the Fury's and boxing orgs leaves me doubtful.

Warren and the Fury's are scumbags. I suspect we wont get any last minute sore backs with the fight rescheduled in Hughie's backyard. Hope Parker puts the goof in hospital

I don't understand how Hughie can still have the mandatory when he has a drugs hearing. Surely just let Parker take a voluntary or unification until we have clear outcome?

So Hughie pulled out citing injury but in fact didn't have a license, the WBO need to make a ruling here and just remove this pos.

Let Parker fight in the UK but against either one of those other creme puffs, Bellew and Whyte, so he can build towards a ppv against Joshua.
