canelo cotto was a good matchup both landed good shots but canelo landed the more telling blows. after the exchanges canelo took those shots better, canelo shots stunned cotto also hurt him to the body the whole fight. i agree with bigdunny GGG is going to try to box from the outside. jab and right hands like the lemiuex fight. canelo has added a few wrinkles to his arsenal. he has always had quick hands and throws good body head combos. he has shown he can slip a jab and counter and use the uppers well. its going to be a good matchup. i dont see any knockdowns in this fight. i think they are going to respect each others power, split decision. its a toss up for me.

Golovkin has better footwork and a better jab - some may disagree but I also think Golovkin is the more intelligent, cerebral fighter.

For me though it's the stamina and output that may well prove the difference here, both are highly accurate, but Golovkins typically a 60 - 70 punch a round guy, Canelo's typically a 40 odd punch a round guy and even then he often seems to need to take a breather. For Canelo to win he really needs to slow the pace of the fight down to something he's comfortable with. If he can't do that I can't see how he can win.

Jacobs managed it somewhat with sustained and aggressive counter attacks but that ain't really Canelos style and I'm unconvinced he would last if he tried it. It's telling to me that Golovkin and Canelo both threw and landed almost an identical number of shots in their last fights, but Canelo was doing it against a lackluster, unskilled Jr who was barely throwing back and still got tired, whereas Golovkin did the same numbers under a storm of return fire, against a more elusive opponent.

Anyways, this **** will get decided in the ring in September and all our predictions are basically meaningless. Just glad this ish got made. May the best guy win.
        What a great post!

Alvarez has built his career on KOing smaller, less-talented fighters than himself. This will not be the case when he fights Golovkin. He won't be able to KO GGG & may get KO'd himself.

GGG has a great chin so maybe he can't hurt GGG that much with head punches. Canelo is a great body puncher so maybe he hurts GGG to the body. Canelo did hurt Cotto many times. He just never finished him. I think Canelo would stop Cotto in a rematch. Chavez has a good chin. I think Canelo just wanted to punish and humiliate Chavez over 12 rounds. I think he could have stopped Chavez if he had gone all out to do so. GGG has never been knocked down and Canelo has never been knocked down. That doesn't mean they can't be knocked down by the right punch on the right place. If Canelo hits GGG flush with the same punch he damn near killed Khan with then GGG might go down.

The punch that kept Chavez hestitent was landed the week before the fight when they starved him into an extra in Walking Dead.

That simply untrue. Brook was an outlier, with GGG fighting recklessly against a guy who he knew couldn't hurt him. Jacobs didn't land ever uppercut, and the ones he did were super flashy without adding any thunder.

But even if it were true, he always eats them. He's been hit by much bigger punchers than Canelo, Lemiuex being on, Jacobs, and probably even Stevens.

Because they just spent two years feeding him soft touches and raked millions from their fan base. After so many people bought Zombie Chavez turns punching bag, De La Hoya knew they needed to get with it.

The only thing that saved them from uber bad press was the GGG announcement.

I didn't know the Cotto/Canelo decision was such controversial decision. Right up there with Chavez/Whitaker, Pacquiao/Bradley I, and even Ward Kovalev. And your quote came from such a reputable source.

I'm going to save my brain cells and end this.
