Comments Thread For: Chavez Jr: I Barely Ate For Two Weeks To Make Weight For Canelo

Former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has been subjected to a wave of criticism for last Saturday's performance against Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. At the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Chavez Jr. took a beating for twelve rounds in a very one-sided fight. All three judges scored every round for Canelo.

Blame nacho and memo. It was there dumb plan to get so light so early. He was 169 2 weeks out the fight myself and many others said it was ******. Was 165 the day before weigh in and actual came in 164 even though he fought for that extra half pound in negotiations for 164.5.

Exactly what I said would happen. Talk up the fight before, and say the weight is fine and you're doing fine...then complain after the fight.

It's not even that JCC Jr is lying, fighters could very well be telling the truth in post fight interviews about weight. But they wait until after the fight and lie to the fans and media about their successful weight training before the fight. Everyone knows Chavez Jr killed himself to make 164lbs.

a few days before the fight he said he felt great and could still make 160. this coward just flat out didn't want to get knocked out. plain and simple. he knew if he opened up canelo would destroy him and finish him off. he decided to play it safe and survive. no respect for this *****. he's a disgrace to his country and a disgrace to boxing. even his father said it had nothing to do with weight, he just didn't have the heart.

Canelo hand speed and countering had more to do with him quitting then the weight. He ****** in the fonfara fight and the 2 fights he won after that were against bums where he wasn't all that good in. He keeps making excuse oh I didn't train hard for those guys I trained hard for canelo I'm knocking him out weight is not an issue this that's what he said all fight week. Now I lost because of weight and not because he's lost to every good to great fighter he's ever faced his entire career. Nope it's just weight. SMH

Which is the issue. They ALL say that. It's like it's against the promotional unwritten rules of a fight to say the truth. Look at Oscar DLH in the pre fight hype for the Pac fight.

Chavez Jr is too big for 160-164, he should be at 168 and no lower or higher. If he goes higher he gets ktfo, if he goes lower he's weight drained. He needs to be determined of making a career at 168 or retire.
