Because a lot of the fans of the sport are one to two generations removed from being from somewhere else, tbh.

Because America likes THE BEST,,, we aren't 3rd worlders with no hope in life, rooting for some countrymen... we are the greatest superpower the world has ever known and are use to the best that the world has to offer

We get the best doctors, best programmers, best basketball, best baseball, best fighters, regardless of where you come from

we got behind our national soccer team and supported our Olympians, especially swimmers....

I think Americans just hate boxing. They all think of don kind and tyson, or manny and floyd. Manny and floyd gives them negative thoughts

I could give a fk where a fighter comes from. None of them represent me as a person and their success doesn't validate me. I find it strange when people get excited about a boxer because he's from their country. It seems like someone must feel really small if that is important to them but I'm not going to judge because I don't fully understand why they feel the way they do.
Jamaica is a small country. We really don't have much to cheer about on the international scene especially in boxing. So yeah I was extra happy to see what Oneil Bell and Axeman did. You are an American. You have become spoiled to people from your country dominating the global scene.

I think it's similar to rooting for a sports team just because that franchise or college is near you. Their players are not all from that area. It really doesn't make much sense when you think about it.

Besides, it's a sport- not a war. And hell, this country has grown so anti-war that many are not on board even for the wars we get involved in. Some have good reasons. Don't get me wrong, but it's a sport. You root for who you like, based on their performance.

I will say that America was probably heavily behind Joe Louis when he fought Max Schmeling during the war.
