Comments Thread For: De La Hoya: After Beating Golovkin, No Doubt Canelo is Top P4P!

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya, who promotes Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs), believes his boxer is only one win away from becoming the best pound-for-pound fighter in the sport. On September 16th, Canelo will challenge WBC, WBA, IBO, IBF middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs). No venue has been finalized at the moment.

Whether Canelo beats GGG or not ODH is right that Canelo continues to improve and that we haven't seen the best of him. He's brave, ambitious, dedicated and highly skilled. It will be interesting to see if he becomes truly great. It is fascinating to see how greatness demands great challenges. The recent Joshua Klitschko matchup was an example of one fight exalting both men. Canelo needs GGG. And GGG needs Canelo. For GGG it is toward the end of his career. For Canelo the beginning, so even a loss (if a Joshua Klitscho type loss) will only build him. If this fight lives up to expectations, and I think it will, it's a win win.

When Canelo beats triple g easily, everyone will say triple g was too old, well Canelo isn't at his peak yet either for all you g fans making excuses already...

Canelo is going to get "KTFO" and when he does all of his followers are going to understand why they didn't want this fight. The only reason he's taking it is because of how the fans dissed him when he vacated his title.

Absolutely if Canelo beats GGG i'd rank him easily at #1. If GGG beats Canelo I'd rank him at #1 also.

It's funny how not too long ago we were all saying that the Ward-Kovalev winner would be P4P #1, and now we gloss over it for guys that couldn't beat either of them. The true P4P #1 gets decided 6/19 IMO
