Not to be a jerk, but a tense interviewed face-off between two fighters who don't like each other all that much, in front of a paying audience that's likely to be massive, will go a heck of a long way to selling 500k PPV buys for Ward-Kovalev II than another Face-Off (which has it's own value, tbf).

Kovalev/Main Events are the B-side ad should acknowledge such in the promotion.

In actuality really, they (Ward and Kovalev) should have done both the interview and the Faceoff.

The more they do, the more it helps their promotion. But this snafu is on them.

This post is odd seeing that you didn't care about the actual underlying facts either.
If you find fault with Ward, fine. Just say that. You seemed to purposely misrepresent this was something he just made up to try and discredit it.
and im not going around starting threads about it either.

Maybe Kovalev is a douche, maybe he isnt. I dont know. But it is pretty much indisputable that Ward is in fact a douche. His own actions over the years have made that quite clear.

The only thing that isnt clear is when exactly Ward became that way. He fought off-tv on the undercard of a show I co-promoted back in 2005, and he was as pleasant a guy as you would want to meet.

Abel Sanchez said he had to remove Kovalev from Big Bear because he had character issues. Kovalev constantly throws his trainer under the bus when he doesn't perform well and when he lost. He takes no responsibility for his actions. He's on record using racial slurs against blacks and immigrants, and HBO had to sit him down and talk to him. This was BEFORE he posted the picture of comparing Adonis to an ape. Then he turns around and does this

Personally I didn't have a problem with that but when you have the history of racism like Kovalev does that's not something you should post. And to have this covered in a major publication like the NY Post isn't a good look for Kovalev or boxing.

I think it's pretty much indisputable Kovalev is a racist and a person of low character from the above evidence I posted.

I would agree with you on the race stuff. There is no place for it in this country. Actually there's no place for it anywhere, but its naive to think that every country has come as far as the US has when it comes to issues of race. Sure, a few countries have come even farther, but I suspect Russia is NOT one of them lol

Years ago one could make the argument that due to where he grew up, and the underlying culture there, one could give him a pass of sorts on his views about race. But he certainly has been exposed to enough western culture by now to know better

He may be, I don't know him. We all change as we get older and wiser about the industries we work in.

People on this site have been bashing Ward ever since he sued to get out of his contract. I see no reason how handling your business is a bad thing.

My only point was it was complete BS to imply or suggest Cobra made that up himself.

Either way, IMO an opportunity to promote was missed. I am all for gamesmanship but this feels like ****** politics between the 2 promotional companies that IMO will only hurt sales.

Roc Nation said they have a marketing plan but they are still neophytes and I don't know how successful it will be. HBO has a plan to promote but Ward doesn't seem to interested to help them out most likely because he didn't get a new deal (that I am aware of).

Frankly, they should be doing everything they can to help sales increase.
fair enough; I don't think the pomp around the announcement of Alvarez-Golovkin is as big as your suggestion, but that's a separate conversation.

Still, remember that, new or not, Roc Nation does claim to have a marketing plan; if Main Events simply continues to try and undermine that, folks should acknowledge that reality.

The "on the ground" interest in the fight, at least as for as I can sense, was massive for Alvarez-Chavez Jr.
