Comments Thread For: Klitschko's Manager: Joshua was 1 or 2 Punches Away From a Loss

Last Saturday night, Wladimir Klitschko was as close as one punch away from beating Anthony Joshua in Saturday's world heavyweight title showdown, his manager has claimed. Both men had to climb off the canvas in an 11-round epic in front of 90,000 at Wembley, but Joshua had the lasting power to pummel Klitschko late on and add the vacant WBA and IBO belts to his IBF crown.

You have to give it to Joshua to have the presence of mind to go down. Watch it back- Wlad hits him with that huge right and for a second, it looks as though AJ isn't going down. Then Wlad looks to follow up with a huge left uppercut/hook, AJ sees this and falls to avoid it. Had he stayed up, it would have been over for him.

Not giving excuses to AJ, it was a crushing right hand, but I watched it back the other day and only noticed it on the replay. That's something that usually comes with experience, so AJ is learning fast and doing well not to be 'rabbit in the headlights' so to speak when he gets hurt.

He was, and it didn't come, so yeah the results are the same as they were that night. Wlad lost a spirited fight one in which he shut up a lot of f'ing people up. Don't kill that for him, we'd love to see him take out Parker next so please don't kill the goodwill the legend has earned.

Yeah so were a thousand fighters throughout their careers. In the end what had happened, happened, Joshua weathered the storm to create his own thunder and win.

The title is very misleading and not at all what the manager actually said.

I'm getting sick of this nonsense. Yeah he was close to being knocked out but he showed very good head movement and slipped a lot of shots. Too much is being made of klitchko not being able to finish the fight and not enough credit is being given to aj for having the ring awareness to survive despite only having 19 fights.

I went back over Klitschko's older fights and he has a habit of taking his time after he gets a fighter hurt. The biggest difference is that AJ is better than those other fighters so Klitschko made a big mistake letting him off the hook.
