The UFC got millions of free Publicity off this hype crap with Floyd for no cost to the UFC. Conor got a huge increase in popularity as did Dana White. The UFC hype machine did well playing off the gullible clueless morons who bought into the fake hype of the fake fight. Smart move by Dana and Conor and the UFC. Brilliant.Comment

IDK manI haven't been following the UFC closely lately but it's been a while since McGregor has fought hasn't it?
Is there more to this story? The fight game is the the game.....is there a #1 contender or something he has been avoiding all this time?Comment

Who cares about that fight. Only people who care are the same people who fantasize about who would win between king kong vs godzilla.Comment

The way he lives his life, I don't think so, tbh; the man is a spendthrift with his finances, is the sole breadwinner for an entourage that's likely hundreds deep, gives ****** amounts of money to the evangelical church that he belongs to, has eyes on continuing to self-finance his political career, and STILL owes the PI government the equivalent of $70m in past-due taxes and penalties.
You add the deal that he apparently still has under Bob Arum, and the man is likely heading the way of Joe Louis, fighting well beyond his time for the paycheck.Comment

If Conor gets his **** pushed in (Floyd shows up sharp, Conor gasses as he usually does 10-15 minutes into the fight [5th/6th round of a 12-round fight], and Floyd beats him into a stoppage), the UFC's biggest star gets exposed as a "Great White Hype", McGregor heads home with his money, and UFC is left without a single star under their banner who could sell even 500k PPVs.The UFC got millions of free Publicity off this hype crap with Floyd for no cost to the UFC. And yet he needs and wants that 50th win against a complete no-hoper. No need to make excuses for him. I know you've had to do that for his entire career, but it's ok now, we all know what he is.Comment

MMA is still an immature sport, as an actual combat sport it might need another decade or two to develop. The main issue is that it's pretty random on who will win a fight. This makes it really hard to develop super stars in the sport. Jones is the closest they have and he can't lay off the blow. McGregor is a loud mouth, that's all, he's a good MMA fighter, but if it wasn't for his mouth he'd be a nobody.
Fans like predictability. I know that seems counter intuitive, but it's true. More than anything, fans want to feel like they are watching history so they can be part of it. Fans want to witness greatness. Fans talk about watching Michael Jordan in the 90s like they were part of the story just for being in the stands. Same with Ali and the same with Micky Mantle and Willie Mays. Nobody ever talks about how lucky they were to get to witness Randy Couture or Anderson Silva.Comment
