Im Mex Am...but I can tell ya the fam in Mex they don't like Nello...I had me a back and forth on sosh med the other day with a primo who was hating on Nello for "skipping" the 3 veces G fight....

Mex kats don't care about the damn business of boxing... all they care is about the honor pride and machismo of the sport...any tiny hint of something different and they hate on you for life.......

Canelo is popular with casuals. Thats who you want to be popular with, because there are tens of millions of casuals, while the real boxing heads are probably only hundreds of thousands.

If your friends hate Canelo -- thats good for Canelo. It means they care enough to hate him. They may pay to watch him lose. if they argue in a barbershop or on the street about how they hate Canelo, thats free advertising.

As an example, my uncle - born in Mexico, now up here, I would call a casual. When Corrales - Castillo happened, I asked him if he had seen the fight. He didnt even know who Corrales or Castillo were. Corrales? you mean Morales? No, tio, Corrales!! lol Who is Castillo? oh man.

Although I agree that ducking GGG hurt his image. I hate Canelo for it, and clown him every chance I get.

I wont pay for his fight w Jr. just because its not a significant fight (may be fun though). However, I will likely pay for GGG v Canelo if Canelo ever stops with his mamadas, and gets in the ring.

so you wont pay for nelo vs jr cause its not a significant fight but you will LIKELY pay if he fights ggg , likely means you are leaning more to not paying for that fight either...

I agree i think hes more popular with mexican-americans. But also in mexico they have alot of soap operas that worship that blondish, colored eyes light skin look. So that may be it

Marquez doesn't like him but a huge amount of Mexican boxing fans and even some Mexicans that aren't big boxing fans love him. They come to his fights by the thousands. His popularity with Mexicans who live in Mexico and the States is the main reason he is one of the highest paid and biggest money making fighters in boxing.

He's definitely more popular with Mexican Americans.

Dude was always seen as a hype job thanks to Televisa.

The hate went to another level when he was schooled by Mayweather, people were pissed that he fought so tentatively .

I would say Chavez is more popular, he has the luxury of having the last name so people will forgive his quit job, Canelo doesn't have that.

I'm not Mexican per se but I did eat at a Mexican restaurant last night

So I think I can speak for all Mexicans when I say that I don't like Canelo
