we have to take the entirety of the situation into account and go from there.

sometimes CW are the only way some fights get made.

my point was, who cares ?

a catchweight devalues a fight and leaves it meaningless

like I said..... if you show me an example of one of those fights you are referring to, that would not have been made without a catchweight..... I will show you an example of a guy who could have dared to be great, but chose not to

none of those fights were necessary, or meaningful..... and ALL of them ended with an asterisk, because of the weight

no big deal, but I couldn't care less if I never see another catchweight fight EVER..... I hope not to

i disagree with the bold stuff.

        may vs canelo
        pac vs slh
        pac vs cotto
        dlh vs hop
        srl vs hearns 2
        canelo vs sol

obviously a guy can find a guy in his own div to fight w/o a cw clause. but tell me, do you think people gaf about 3g vs bjs at natural weight or 3g vs canelo at cw

again, CWs arent a new wrinkle to the sport.

          STOP !!

          may vs canelo
          * completely unnecessary catchweight
          * that catchweight devalued the win
          * fans still use weight as an excuse for Canelo's loss

pac vs slh (you can't be serious)
          * the weight COMPLETELY devalued that win
          * anyone could have beaten the 145lb shrink-wrapped Hoya that Pac fought
          * any top welter would have knocked out that version of Hoya, so would any top Jnr, even Marquez would have knocked out zombie-Hoya
          * that was a silly exhibition match

          .pac vs cotto

          COME ON MAN, GET REAL

          I will stop it there

your first three examples proved my point entirely

          * NOBODY takes those wins seriously
          * those catchweights were ALL completely unnecessary
          * ALL of those fights ended with a *

listen , Pac totally refused to rematch Cotto at 150..... despite previously beating him, and despite saying that he will fight anyone at 150

Pac demanded 147, which killed the fight..... and that is the ONLY reason the first Pac/Bradley fight happened

Pac was completely unwilling to fight a healthy Cotto

FACT: Mayweather and Pacquiao could have dared to be great, but they chose not to

catchweights fkn SUCK, and you proved why !!!!

            1) just because YOU dont like cw's doesnt mean MOST FIGHT FANS dont. check the numbers on may vs canelo and get back to me.

            2) i know pac drained the shlt out of dlh. thats why i gave him new initials, Slh (shell la hoya). however, that fight put pac in the spotlight in a major way. people couldnt stop saying how impressive pac was in that thorough beating.

            3) again, i hated how pac refused to fight cotto w/o a clause. it was a bltch move. pac fiends dont see these moves as anything but pac searching out greatness !

            3) show me how ''nobody'' takes those fights ''seriously''. again, youre looking at things through cracked lenses. your feelings towards them are skewed.

            4) we are both on the same page regarding pac and his crafty way on navigating around danger.

            5) may moved up and fought quality guys. i dont know aboput you but his resume speaks for itself and hes EARNED that 1st ballot hof ATG status. pac also earned his place in the hall but shouldnt be regarded as highly as may.

            6) fights that can only happen at cw beats those guys never fighting. FACT

some fair points, but lets agree to disagree

I think that ALL catchweight fights end with an asterisk

THAT, is why boxing uses weight divisions..... weight divisions are the leveller, catchweights fk everything up

but good post, and interesting conversation..... interesting point about the Hoya fight (#2)

my bottom line, I get your fair point about exposure..... but I don't care if I never see another catchweight fight..... and there is not 1 catchweight fight throughout history that I would regret missing..... they are all meaningless exhibition matchups in my book, because they have no divisional relevance

those guys could ALL have achieved exactly the same by fighting/beating relevant divisional opponents..... and those fights would not end with a *

The only disadvantage Canelo ever had was dropping a whopping 2lbs for the biggest name in the sport. The catchweight vs Cotto was a huge advantage and he has made so many bull**** demands since. He lost respect from most people for good reason; weight being a big part of it.
How was the CW for Cotto a huge advantage to Canelo? Canelo had to work harder than Cotto to make weight.

The people talking shit about this catchweight are the same people that said Golovkin asking for 164 was fair.

Canelo is moving up 10lbs, Chavez down 4lbs. Canelo not even making him come halfway.

What about Pacquiao? He did the same ****. At the lower weights he was draining 15lbs+, at WW he'd fight at 147 for some but not for others.
