I wonder IF Diaz would train Lucas for a match-up against Timbo Bradley??

And exactly what title run would that be, Joel?? Lucas is done. He's a journeyman at this point.

Lucas has been unlucky. The fight vs Peterson should have been for a title, and his other two title shots vs DSG and Postol, his orbital bone broke at crucial times. DSG laced him even though it was an accident, and Postol reinjured it with a punch, but it was a reinjury.

If Matthysse's eye can heal for good, and not break again during a big fight, then he could still win a belt if not do really well. The bigger question is why couldn't he hurt Postol? What happened to his power? Other than Crawford, Postol is one of the biggest 140's, but still. Lucas needs to make himself bigger at 140 then, or something. But at 140, he could still be good. It wasn't too long ago he beat Ruslan. Ruslan can be outboxed, but for a slugger like Matthysse to beat him is pretty rare. Then again so did John Molina. It certainly looked like Matthysse might be on the downswing when he had to go to war against John Molina.

Then again, styles make fights and John Molina was a huge 140 too. Which just goes to show Lucas at 147 could have big problems, if he was already being outsized at 140. But the John Molina who fought Lucas was a style problem and a much better fighter than the one who came in out of shape against Terence Crawford and had been through many wars.

Crawford is obviously a big favorite vs Matthsyse at 140, but Gamboa hurt Crawford so if Matthysse can get past the return fire, and put some shots on Crawford, he could hurt him. Otherwise, Matthysse might still be the favorite against Indongo. That's honestly the fight Matthysse should chase. He also should have gone after Ricky Burns title when Burns still had it. That would have been a slam dunk title win for Matthysse. He is all wrong for Burns just like pretty much every other B+ or better fighter from 135 to 147.

Matthysse could beat Indongo. He could possibly beat Broner although Broner at 140 would be very dangerous against someone smaller with bad defense like Matthysse. And he would make a way more entertaining fight against Crawford than anyone else at 140.

So yeah, if Matthysse eye is injured, and his body feels re-invigorated after the rest, then I still want to see what he can do against the best guys at 140. Unlike a guy like Robert Guerrero who you know has no chance of pulling the upset at 147 just because everyone is bigger than him and he can't hurt any of the top guys, with Matthysse, he can still hurt even the best guys at 140, and he still has decent speed for the division outside of Crawford, and very good stamina, and even his chin is still good. He got stopped against Postol because of the eye, not the chin.

So yeah, bring on those fights at 140. Even Matthysse vs Mikey would be a hell of a fight at 140, although I would worry for Matthysse going against a counter puncher with just as much power as him and more precision. And obviously I'd rather see Crawford vs Mikey, and Crawford vs the top guys at 147, but if Crawford is going to keep weight bullying guys at 140, then I'd much rather see him fight Matthysse than guys like John Molina. Felix Diaz is better for now though just because he's working with Ariza, which brings hope for a more competitive fight.

It would be intriguing to see Matthysse vs someone like Thurman though, or the DSG rematch at 147, or Khan. Actually, those, especially the latter two, are way better fights than the ones at 140. So maybe 147 is better after all. Khan is not a huge welterweight plus he's chinny. DSG is pretty big now but they've fought before so whatever. If DSG can bulk up, maybe Matthysse can too, although DSG was always way bigger naturally.

Matthysse vs Peterson rematch is also more interesting than most fights at 140. And maybe if Matthysse can bulk up, even though his natural size will suck at 147, it could just allow him to add even more power, and since he's already so naturally powerful, it really could be something to see at 147 without him having to drain at all. Just like Brook's power was so much better at 160. The left uppercut he hit GGG with is not something he could throw as naturally and snappy at 147. So maybe we could see something similar with Matthysse at 147. Just put all those extra pounds into power, while allowing him to not drain as much to make the weight, put him in Everlast MX puncher's gloves like Maidana wore, and just let him be an all out offensive guy with power and extra stamina from not having to drain to make 147 who just outworks and hurts guys and maybe upsets someone like Thurman, who struggled with Diego Chavez and got hurt by Soto Karass, or the DSG rematch, or Khan, etc.

All I know is, let's see Matthysse in another big fight or two, at 140 or 147, against an opponent who is not too much faster than him, and let's see if we don't get a surprising fight out of it if Matthysse's eye holds up.

He is to small for 147. Even when he fought Garcia , at 140 you could see the size difference.

Lucas gets that eye closed by Crawford and stopped inside of 12.

HBO had better ratings than showtime and it wasn't even live.
