Can Anthony Joshua become the biggest Heavyweight star since Mike Tyson?

With todays social media and the world become more global, can Anthony Joshua become the most exciting & biggest heavyweight star since Mike Tyson?

He is way more exciting than Lennox Lewis and the Klitschko's ever was.
I feel he is more marketable than Lennox Lewis, & he has the backing of The United Kingdom that Lennox Lewis never really had.

That is of course only if Joshua keeps winning and making entertaining fight.

Since? Maybe. But he's not coming anywhere near Tyson. The persona just isn't there. Tyson was so interesting he's still referenced in TV shows. People wanted to talk about Mike. It was a social phenomena. Can you see the Simpson's having an Anthony Joshua type character? Nah.

Beating Lennox in popularity is good and all, but if I asked 20 people on the street in the US who Lennox Lewis was, I'd be surprised if one knew.

Im not saying he will ever be more exciting nor a bigger star than Tyson. Im talking about since Mike Tyson.
Tyson is easily the most exciting and infamous Heavyweight boxing of all time IMO.
The only boxer more famous than him is of course Ali.

I'm not sure how old you are but I remember the Tyson phenomenon. He was bigger than Jordan and Jordan was big at the time too. Like Redd said, Tyson personality was what made him. The average person knows AJ can beat them up. The average person knew Tyson could beat them up. If you saw AJ in a dark alley you'd be afraid until you recognized him then you'd be relieved it's nice guy AJ, heavyweight champion of the world. If you saw Tyson in a dark alley you'd be even more worried when you recognized him. You get what I'm saying?

He will probably the first heavyweight to transcend the sport in a long time and the first to come along and transcend the sport since the rise of social media, which is a big thing.

He might not have the fearsome aura of Tyson because of his personality, but he can still become very popular because his public image and persona fits well with todays politically correct and inoffensive culture that celebrities have to abide by. He has a good story about a bad kid that turned good and respectful, people lap that up. It's different times now.

It's a different kid of popularity for sure but Joshua definitely fits perfectly with the modern world than a guy in the mould of Tyson would have. Look at Tyson Fury, he made a few out there comments that go against the grain in todays world and he was public enemy number one for a bit and vilified in the media.

He won't have the cultural impact Tyson did but could definitely be the biggest since. That said, he has to keep winning of course. The general public are fickle and once he gets beat then it will quickly die off.

Im 25 and I rememeber Tyson when he come out of prison. Even in elementary school everybody knew him and he sure was famous.
But again please read what i write. I said SINCE not bigger than Tyson.
I ask if he will be the biggest since Tyson, not surpassing him, his aura or fame.

With social media I think someone in the boxing world will become more popular than Tyson & even Ali sooner or later. Boxing as a whole probably needs to gain some ground first doe.

Hell I think Floyd could've become much more popular than he even became if he had a more entertaining style &/or fought in different countries more because of the influence of social media so I think the recipe is there now if you got the right ingredients.

If its Joshua or some guy who comes after Joshua is gonna be all about what things they do right or wrong & things they capitalize or don't capitalize on along with a lil bit of luck I'd imagine.

But if I was betting on anyone around today my money would obviously be on Joshua I know that much. He's a f#cking movie cardboard cutout of what the most popular boxer of all time should look like. Canelo has potential, but he's 50 odd fights into his career & isn't even speaking English to mainstream media yet which is hurting his cause & bank account.

He can become much bigger than Tyson if he can keep winning. Tyson was a killer in the ring. Outside of the ring he was a total thug. He was a bully and and an ass hole and damn near ******ed. AJ is a saint compared to Tyson. He is polite, well spoken and very likable. You will never hear AJ tell his opponent his going to make him his girl friend. You will never hear AJ tell an opponent he is going to eat their children. AJ is never going to bite his opponent's ear off.
