What the **** is your problem, Larry? Both fighters showed high levels of skill in addition to the excitement of the KDs and eventual stoppage. Calling Joshua-Wlad "rock em sock em robots" is a ridiculous and inaccurate characterization.
Tonight showed me this era is full of Rocky fans

Meanwhile, everyone else was in thrall to a wonderful fight last night - and if he wants to talk about Mayweather subtextually, let's talk about it directly - last night's fight at least erases some of the damage Floyd did to the sport with the debacle against Pac, where he stunk of the whole joint and refused to take any risks just to make sure he gamed the system and got his beloved points decision.Comment

Do you blame people? After an exhilarating night, which did wonders for the profile of the sport we love, this guy tries to tell us that we are wrong to do - the same guy who worships Mayweather, a guy who did untold damage to the sport that we still haven't recovered from.
Larry also made an earlier thread saying something like.......you got out your shield or your own terms.....basically saying Wlad got knocked out, unlike Floyd.
Yeah, Wlad gave us an amazing performance and fight, and is getting more love than he ever did as a champion.
Meanwhile, Floyd went out with Berto, with everyone relieved he had finally gone, hopefully never to bring back his toxic presence to the sport.Comment

I've been here long enough to know that when you first started posting here you were a casual who got into boxing because of Floyd.
You have a lot more knowledge now, but not nearly as much as you think. This post exposes your lack thereof, rockem sockem? That was a high level, technical war. Do both guys have holes in their game? Yes absolutely, but Wlad is elite and he isn't shot, he is over the hill. Saying that, he was great last night, he turned the clock back and fought a great fight.
I still think these guys are a level down from the best heavyweights in the 90's but that is my personal opinion, but their size and physical qualities would have made them live against the Holyfield's and Lewis'. Wlad is one of the better defensive heavyweights of all time, ok he holds too much, and sometimes it has got ridiculous but still a great defensive fighter.
As others have said, boxing is about different styles. All styles can be overcome and ALL should be appreciated, especially at this kind of level. You have tunnel vision when it comes to understanding styles, and that actually hinders your ability to understand boxing to further levels.
That was a great fight, great night. A special performance from both guys. Lots of forced mistakes and some unforced errors. It was a proper throwback heavyweight fight, where both guys showed their technique and skill, but in the end it game down to fortitude, heart, and the intangibles that you can't measure, Classic!.
The fact that you CAN'T see it, is sad for you.Comment

This reminds me of people that love NL Baseball, with bunting, hit and runs, pinch runners and say that AL baseball with the DH is blasphemous. Or ****ing Big Ten football fans who love 3 yards and a cloud of dust and winning games 9-6 and curse anybody who can enjoy Big 12 and Pac 12 football slinging it all over the yard. Sad that apparent "boxing fans" can't enjoy something like we got yesterday.Comment

This is the boxing hipster mantra if I ever saw it. AJ was the one behaving more like a prospect by turning it up a notch too much and almost paid the price. That's how it happened but he could've easily ended like up Izu Ugonoh. Yeah, most fans are going to like that type of drama. It's ok to like this. If you're saying that wanting every fight to be like this is BS well then I'll agree with that.Comment

This thread was a bad idea, Larry.
There's absolutely no such thing as an incorrect preference, and if people prefer fights like last night's, its their prerogative. It doesn't make them any less fans of the sport than those who didn't like or rate it highly.
Mayweather is my favourite fighter of all time, no doubt. But he chose the heel role, because it ensured him high paydays. It resulted in people harbouring legitimate feelings of dislike towards him, and threads like these only serve to draw such people out of the woodwork to start hating on him; which is their right.
To try and discredit last night's fight, which was entertaining and filled with dramatic moments that actually draw people to the sport only makes you come across as bitter, and whiny. Don't do that to yourself.
Last night was good for boxing. 2017 is good for boxing, especially after the damage May v Pac did to casual interest, and then 2016 as a whole.
This is a petty thread, man.Comment
