Wait a min WT ***? This guy is so dead his coprse has started to stink. This guy looks like a victim of high voltage electric current. This guy looks like the dead bodies they find in dumpsters. This guy is Shavez Jr. Jr.
SMH I have a feeling he's gonna come in this fight like Oscar did vs Pac.
Unless they're just bluffing to the media and he's actually in the mid 170's where he should be.
They have proper methods now where you can cut weight by removing the water weight within 48-72 hours before the weigh-in. This is where you should lose your final 10 pounds or so.
Chavez should not be below 170 with still over a week out before the weigh-in.
His legs look skinny AF and his face does look a bit drawn-in.
For as much praise as Nacho gets for being a great trainer. Besides Marquez and his brother, I can't think of any other fighters he's had that became elite under his guidance.
I totally forgot that Nacho trained Oscar for the Pacquiao fight. Amazing that he had Oscar weight drained for weeks prior to the weigh in. Seems like it's too soon as well for Chavez Jr.
I thought Memo was in charge of the weight loss. I'm sure he is, but I'm wondering if Nacho insisted on certain things for the camp and target weights.
In any event, it seems like Nacho would've learned with the De La Hoya fight not to be too light too soon.
It's like history repeating itself.
Rey Vargas, who won a championship two months ago, is Nachos' 27th champion.
Lol lots of casuals on this forum who barely started watching boxing recently I guess. Beristain has trained numerous world champions and even developed some HOFers like Gilberto Roman and Daniel Zaragoza hence the gym name Roman-Za a combination of his two finest fighters before developing the Marquez brothers. He also trained Ricardo Finito Lopez after his initial trainer died and even rejuvenated Jhonny Gonzalez allowing him to capture a few titles at Featherweight including a 1st round KO over another of his former fighters Abner Mares.
De La Hoya, Chavez Jr, Angulo and a few others were only with Nacho for a fight or two and you cant always blame the trainer for not helping them sometimes the fighters need to know their limitations. Oscar should have never fougth Pacquiao at least not at that weight, and Julio doesn't look good but what do you expect when he hasn't come in this low since 2012. I wouldn't be surprised if this plays out exactly like Ward vs Dawson.
You are correct about Nacho being a good trainer - at least regarding the fundamentals, and the "science of boxing" aspect of it.
I'm not sure if he's too knowledgeable on the strength and conditioning side of it. A lot of these old school trainers aren't too hip with implementing resistance weight training into a regimen, or taking advantage of other advances in the strength and conditioning world in general.
You have to admit whatever happened with DLH for the PAC fight was a catastrophe. I mean, didn't he only come in like a pound or two heavier for fight night? When he should have walked in the ring around 158-160.
I think that poster may have a point about Nacho insisting on certain things, and NOT for the better with there weight-cut.
However, on the other hand, certainly Nacho had to have seen what Memo and his team did for Marquez? And how much they improved him? Before that - when marquez tried to fight at 140+ against Floyd, he was pretty terrible.

Yeah Nacho has had quite a few champions like Ricardo "Finito" Lopez and others. Of those 27 a handful or more or so are really elite or well known. I was just informed on it by another poster. So that is definitely my bad. I appreciate the info though. Thanks
Yup Nacho was the same man with the plan, look at my post a few back with photos of Oscar in his Forbes fight weigh in which was contracted at 150 and his next fight with Manny at 147 (which was his first and only time working with Nacho). 3lbs difference don't make you look like that if you make weight properly. There was no reason for Oscar to be that light weeks before the fight or let alone come in 2 lbs BELOW 147 the lightest he'd been in over a decade. Now you got Chavez also way too phuking light looking like a ghoul almost 2 weeks out. He just made weight at 168 with about a half lb I think to spare at the weigh in. He should not look this phuked up if he weighs 169 with 10 days to go. They mismanaged his training camp he is too light too early he should be at LEAST 175 at this point. Same thing with Oscar they were saying he was at 147 weeks before the weigh in. WTF! SMH
Exactly.
They have methods now where you can make weight by removing your glycogen deposits and water weight - you start this process about 2-3 days before the weigh-in.
And all you lose is water weight - you don't actually lose any real mass. That's why fighters then put back on 10-15 pounds usually (in some rare cases 20).
Didn't Oscar only gain back like 1-2 pounds for fight night? When he should have came in the ring close to 160.
He's doing it all wrong. I don't know why Nacho just wouldn't leave the weight aspect to Memo and his team, who have full comprehension and grasp of these new methods.
Maybe Nacho was worried Chavez would embarrass him by coming in over weight? But I still can't see Nacho NOT leaving it to Memo, after he saw the benefits Memo had for Marquez (whether or not you believe he used PEDs is irrelevant for this discussion).
