Roy Jones is not only one of the greatest fighters who ever lived but I think he ranks up there with one of the greatest athletes who ever lived. He did things I've never seen anyone do before or since.

Only with Roy can people say he didn't have competition yet he dominated James Toney and clearly beat Hopkins. That's two of the top 15 fighters of the last 30 years.

When Roy fought Eric Harding, Roy was having trouble hitting the guy clean. So Roy starts punching his shoulder, after 10 rounds Harding quit in the corner from his shoulder being so busted up. That's some legendary stuff.

I had Roy beating Hopkins by only 2 rounds in the first fight...James Toney was just too slow for Roy.

What 5 rounds did you give Hopkins?

Jones was wasted. he neevr became the star HBo hoped and pumped money into, he never became the household name the US boxing industry needed with Tyson's implosion and he never achieved assured greatness through accomplishments, no matter how much HBO wanted to sell us the heavyweight "championship".

Don't get me wrong, he was great but he was never upper tier great and that was what he was supposed to be in the early to mid 90s when thats all the US media wanted.

That has more to do with the promotional side of things than any shortcoming Roy had.

In any case, the video is about his skills and ring iq.

Agreed. To best sum it up Roy was having fun.
He had such insane reflexes and speed it was just ****** how outmatched his opponents were. He had a long beautiful streak until Griffin and even that was bull****. Then he walks into the rematch and annihilates him. Because of all that speed and lightning fast reflexes, he had amazing power. Or at least it translated into power. I still have yet to see someone comparable to Roy's size move up in weight fighting someone 30+ lbs heavier, literally dominating with a jab, walking their opponent down. Ruiz wasn't anything great but Roy's left hand alone was more versatile and powerful than anything Ruiz could muster in his whole body.

If we are going to ignore Jones inability to fight the best and concentrate on his skills alone even they are far lower than other atgs. That's the reason he started getting kod the moment his natural reflexes gave way.

The man had no understanding if defence, distance and how to survive. The myth of him being this supreme athlete is just that,a myth.

He was a great specimen no doubt, natural ability through the roof but the greatest athletes have more than that.
