only one of the following statements can be true.....
the Garden greeted Golovkin with cheers when he entered the ring, but booed the decision was it was announced
Most observers at ringside were impressed with Jacobs' performance, but felt Golovkin was the clear winner
not convinced that mine is correct, but certainly not convinced about yours either
the point is..... Golovkin has Jacobs problems, whether you like to admit it or not..... simply because a number of observers (fans/insiders/professionals) think that Jacobs beat Golovkin..... so Jacobs name will ALWAYS be mentioned until Golovkin gets that monkey off his back by attempting to set the record straight

I think the difference in the fight was GGG's jab and for a guy who usually knocks people out that can be pretty underwhelming for fans.
Hopefully we'll see a rematch in the near future.
As far as fan reactions, I think they're pretty unreliable. I remember the boos for the decision for Floyd in the Pac fight. Also one of the biggest cheers of the night in the Ward-Kov fight was when lost Kovalev his balance and got tangled in the ropes. You can't beat being at a big fight for drama and electricity but you almost always have a better view from home.

OH YEAH, I KNOW THE REASON
The real hilarious part is that you suck at watching boxing! Kov - Ward wasn't even close! Any boxer in Kov's shoes would have been crying robbery!

Gennady Golovkin, after a decade as a pro fighter, steps in with a real middleweight, and has the first nip/tuck fight of his entire career, yet there is utterly no interest coming from his fanbase to set the record straight, lol.
Floyd, Roy, and Andre Ward (among other fighters) fought close fights, and then immediately went forward with rematches to end any/all doubt of who was actually better.
Golovkin and his camp have openly talked up putting off following that lead for 4-5 fight, a time frame that could end up extending for 2 years.
1. GGG fans don't feel the need to set the record straight. Our guy won. It was a close fight that had a lot of us nervous but our guy won. We would like to see a rematch. We think Jacobs deserves it. We just don't like the talk of conspiracies coming from Jacobs camp and all the nonsensical hatred coming from people like about***ingtime.
2. GGG has fought real middleweights throughout his career. GGG has a lot of solid opponents his resume. GGG's top 10 opponents Daniel Jacobs, David Lemieux, Matthew Macklin, Marco Rubio, Curtis Stevens, Daniel Geale, Martin Murray, Gabriel Rosado, Willie Monroe, Kassim Ouma. Outside of his fights with Quillin, GGG and Pirog (he lost 2 of those fights) Jacobs' top 10 includes prospects who never panned out (Jarrod Fletcher, Giovanni Lorenzo and Caleb Traux) guys whose best days were spent in lower divisions (Ishe Smith and Sergio Mora) and a bunch of club fighters that guys like Jacobs get fed on the way up. I am not saying Jacobs wouldn't destroy GGG's opposition just as emphatically as GGG did but if you GGG's 10 best fight Jacob's 10 best GGG's side would win way more fights.
3. Floyd and Roy have also been notoriously choosy about who they fight. Sure, they fought immediate rematches against a couple guys but both also possess a long list of top tier contemporaries they never got in the ring with because there wasn't enough money on the table. And I say this as a huge RJJ fan. Before GGG, Roy Jones Jr was my favorite fighter. But there were a ton of quality opponents for RJJ at super middleweight that Roy never fought because there wasn't enough money in those fights So lets not pretend that these guys were just doing it for the sake of their honor. Those rematches were big money fights. And Ward was contractually obligated to give Kovalev a rematch. Lets stop pretending he's a war hero for honoring a contract he signed.
4. GGG tries to fight 3 times a year. If all goes according to plan he'll fight 2 more times this year (Canelo in September and hopefully Billy Joe Saunders in the fall). So 4-5 fights should still line up the Jacobs rematch sometime next year and not 2 years down the line.Last edited by yankees7448; 04-24-2017, 11:11 AM.

As good as GGG was his knockout streak wasn't going to last forever and while he has fought largely solid opposition Jacobs was by a wide margin the most talented fighter he ever got in the ring with. We all expected GGG to blow out Jacobs but he simply outjabbed him and outworked him. At the same time, Jacobs had his moments where he excelled and clearly wasn't afraid of GGG's power. All this combined to lead to this reaction. Its understandable but people need to take a step back and really understand what happened. It was a good close fight that we should see a rematch of but GGG did legitimately win the fight.
Also, people forget Jacobs was the younger, bigger guy with a reputation as a puncher. He's the challenger and he thinks he can finesse his was to a title?
I had the fight 116-111 and think Golovkin could have stopped an exhausted Jacobs if had pressed more in the 12th.

I think you're likely right about the fan reactions
but the different perspectives are interesting
regarding the bold.....
the expectations put on Golovkin are not unreasonable, because he placed those expectations upon himself..... the guy who can beat "anyone from 154-168" should have cleaned out Danny Jacobs
Golovkin was over-rated, Jacobs was under-rated..... AND Jacobs fought the fight of his life.
It was a good win for Golovkin, just like Kovalev was a good win for Ward..... but both Golovkin and Ward left unanswered questions
I will even go this far.....
awarding that victory to Golovkin is fair, just like awarding that victory to Kovalev would have been more fair..... considering those guys were long-standing kingpins..... but, BOTH have problems respectively
GGG has Jacobs problems, and Ward has Kovalev problems

1) I don't believe that for one second
2) IF that is even slightly accurate, then you guys need to demand that Golovkin stop fighting these look-good bums.....
who did Golovkin carry ?
