Comments Thread For: Matthysse Had to Move Up to Welterweight; Done With 140

Lucas Matthysse determined long before this comeback began that he'd have to move up in weight. He had more trouble than usual making the 140-pound super lightweight limit for his past two fights. And at 34, the Argentine power puncher just didn't think it was possible to continue fighting within the division he had exclusively called home since making his pro debut in June 2004.

At 147 he hasn't got many options for success. I think D. Garcia repeats his performance against Lucas, and the current title-holders at 147 are either too big, strong or fast for him. I can see him in a competitive scrap with Berto, Collazo, Peterson and maybe Broner if he chooses to fight at 147.

Or he could take the loss and collect his paycheck which I think he'll do.

one things for sure is that Quitthysse has some serious power. and now that he's not struggling to make weight he should hit even harder. this is going to be interesting.

no idea if that is true, but it is interesting.....

I suspect you could be right

                problem is.....

                * whilst Matthyse has been fighting at a higher level than Jeff Horn..... I suspect that Matthyse is done, and will be less effective at welter..... so, FACT: Pac will beat the dog-**** out of Matthyse, no question in my mind

                so fk that fight

                * I have never watched Horn fight, don't know anything about him..... he has the typical advantages, young strong lion doe..... but unless he is an outstanding fighter he will fall way short of Pacquiao

Horn brings an " unknown " factor..... whereas Matthyse brings an air of inevitability

Horn sounds much better..... a natural welter, young, undefeated, champion, etc..... whereas Matthyse is none of those things..... Horn could fall way short, whereas Matthyse could possibly survive/rally/finish the fight..... or it could go the other way around..... I wonder if you're right?

neither are much to get excited about

Last time we saw him he quit against Postol and that was two years ago. Let's see what he looks like against Emmanuel Taylor in a couple of weeks. Lucas Matthysse could very well be done.
