    Finally! Canelo isn't...

    Lineal champion anymore!

    Latest Updates 18 April 2017:

*** Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is now the former middleweight king. Last Tuesday, he was asked point-blank about his middleweight title status during a conference call and he answered as follows:

“I am not a middleweight champion. I was at one point, but I am no longer the middleweight champ.”

Canelo has thus and therefore formally abdicated, as per the charter, the middleweight throne. Given that he has not been inactive in the division for more than eighteen months, the board had to decide where he should be ranked at Middleweight, if at all. Most members held that he should be ranked at #3 at this time, though there was dissent in both directions. Ryota Murata is bumped out. ---TBRB---

He's still the ring champion. As ridiculous as it is, he has over 8 months to schedule a mw fight. Also, some f@g will be in this thread in no time talking about "lineal"...

He hasnt been since he handed it over to Golovkin. Anyone with any brains knew he abdicated it all with that move regardless what the Ring or anyone else believes.

ring magazine doesn't list lineal champions. ring magazine lists ring magazine champions. ring magazine is owned by canelo's promoter. ring magazine invented a bunch of random rules that have nothing to do with lineal and everything to do with benefiting canelo's promoter.

GGG literally has to rematch Jacobs now to become lineal according to their rankings

Id rather see that next to be honest since it looks like the Saunders fight is a no go and Im not sure the canelo fight ever happens.

How does that work? When ever someone is a Lineal Champion, what are the rules that judge and determine how long or what a boxer does to be Lineal Champion? You mentioned a board. I'm just asking because for as long as I've followed boxing I've never heard how being or staying a Lineal Champion works. For those that know and are aware, please fill me in. Thanks

I'm glad to see it but the RING needs to get their act together. 18 months is way too long to allow a fighter to be a champion without defending his title. I'd cut it down to 9 months. Maybe even 6.
