What was Prichard Colon's potential in the welterweight division?

Funny you should bring him up. Just read an article about Prichard on ESPN.com a few days ago. Terrible story. The kid is in a vegetative state, and his family has to care for him round the clock. Boxing is for keeps. I'll never criticize anyone for being careful about their health. In the end, the fans don't care, only your loved ones do.

But Williams wa the best opponent he fought and he really didn't do well in that fight. I saw a lot issues with Colon in that fight that told me he wasn't quite cut out for the pros (most of us aren't) and only wished he could have escaped that fight healthy so he could realize it wasn't for him and moved on in life.

It'd depend on how his power developed as he kept fighting better and better opposition, but I think he had the makings of a possible world titlist at 154lbs.
Tall, long, well-scholled, but was still learning the intricacies of the pro game.
Depending on how hard they pushed him, I'd imagine that he'd be below Lara/Andrade/Charlos but in the mix with Hurd/Harrison/Williams/etc.

I hate what happened to him and any fighters that have/will have experienced what he has, but I wasn't sold on him. He was still early in his career but he hadn't shown what I wanted to see to make me believe in him doing anything too great. I still wish him the best despite the odds
