No but he would have added 5 years to his life had he not taken all of those shots.Man Cotto ****ed him up.Branco is a tough S.O.B. thats for sure.Man everyone needs to quit all this crying about this....Oscar did not throw the fight. He was hurt and maybe chose not to get hurt anymore....."Quit" but he did not throw the fight. He believed that he could win when he entered the ring that night.get over it people. If Hopkins went to CW and got hit by Oneill bell with a shot to the liver do you think he may go down?????

liver shots and arm shots are completely different. if Bell hits him in the liver, Hopkins might go down. if Bell hits him in the arm, Hopkins stays up.

He glanced the Arm but clearly hit him in the Liver region.

exactly. it doesn't matter if it was the cleanest hook to the body, if your not expecting it you will go down. also dlh is a natural lightweight going against a natural middle weight, hopkins didnt have to land the cleanest shot to deliver a lot of power.

I have seen it 30 times......I don't want to watch it anymore. They showed it many times in slow motion for the build Up to Mayorga/DLH it was pretty clear to me.I agree it seemed like what that could not have hurt that bad but DLH is no ***** and I don't think he would ever pull any **** like that.He had never been KOed why would he stay down????He is a solid fighter with tons of pride no matter how much money he has and I refuse to disrespect on of the great fighters of our time like that.

A lot of people cite that as a reason the punch had such an efffect. But, that makes no sense to me...

If a Nissan Maxima crashes into a Hyundai Elantra....it would
smack it up well enough. There would be some visible impact. If a Nissan Titan hits that same Elantra, it will demolish it. The impact would be far more devastating & visible than what the Maxima produced.

Hopkins' punch did not sink into Oscar. It did not shift anything inside of Oscar. There was no evidence of any heft on that punch whatsoever...so I don't see where the size advantage mattered.

the size advantage is that oscar is not used to being hit by a middle wieght. and that wasn't my main arguement. my main argument was that he wasnt expecting it and didnt see it coming, thus he did not prepare for it and thus it hurt like hell.

I don't know, but from what I heard from a guy who was instrumental in the setup of this fight and has alot of credibility in the sport., there was alot of shadiness behind this fight. He intimated to me that there was kick back money that Bob Arum paid to a major boxing medium to hype this fight up and provoke public interest in the fight. He also mentioned one other fight, but the case I have created is not nearly as strong as it is on this one. My source didn't tell me that the fight was thrown, but I do have my doubts.

While DLH did get hit on a very sensitive part of the body, when you are aired out you don't react like he did. I have been hit with some violent body shots in my life and the LAST thing you are able to do is yell and scream in pain. In my whole life watching boxing in the gym and on tv, I have never seen a fighter react like De La Hoya did after that left hook to the body that Hopkins' ended the bout with.

I have serious doubts as to the integrity of this bout.
Intersting, I've always believed he took a dive in that fight just to give Hopkins a multi million dollar fight something he's been asking for along time and in return Hopkins agrees to partner up with DLH in order to grab the interest of the african american fighters for his promotional co. This is just my opinion guys...I just find it funny when DLH announces the partnership a week later.

Plus in the undercard of Barerra Vs Juarez the guy got hit with a nasty liver shot and the man could hardly speak or breath and there's DLH on the canvas screaming & pounding the canvas.
