Comments Thread For: Ricky Burns: I've Still Got a Few Years Left, Big Fights Ahead

Ricky Burns has made it clear that he would continue boxing after losing his WBA super-lightweight belt to Julius Indongo in a unification clash at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow. The 34-year-old was outclassed in a unanimous points decision - one of the judges awarded Indongo all 12 rounds - but Scotland's first three-weight world champion suggested post-fight that a tough night against the awkward and rangy southpaw from Namibia would not be his last in the ring.

I hope he keeps reasonable expectations... Fights like Saturday's rob you of your future. Guy can't afford to go 12rds as a punching bag again. Hope he chooses wisely.

He could make a couple bucks as a stepping stone.

It appears the gravy train has pulled into the sidings & he's Euro/Commonwealth level now. Maybe he could add the EBU & Lonsdale belt's to his trophy cabinet, but at 34 his World title days are sadly over.

He was always a massive over achiever. He's now an average fighter in decline.

Unless a pretty poor opponent stumbles into a belt or one becomes vacant, world titles are highly unlikely.

He had won his last "world" title (ha!) exactly in that way, a vacant trinket against an Italian nonentity.

I hope that Burns understands that after being well beaten he can't expect to go straight in to a big name money fight as some idiots like Khan think is the norm.

He was well undone and for me never won a round .What the judge who scored the fight 118-114 (D) was watching is beyond me.

Burns can come again at a lower level and talk of a fight with Broner at this time should be left to the likes of his conqueror who looked well impressive.

Burns is one of the most carefully matched fighters in the past few years. He only won that 3rd title because he fought a vacant title fight against a euro level Italian and then lost it to the first good fighter he faced.

His best days were about 5-7 years ago. He has lost to any decent fighter he's fought since then. Got a gift v Beltran, lost clearly to Crawford, Zlaticanin, Figueroa, and now Indongo. I still think there was something a bit shady about the Jose Gonzalez fight ending too, Burns was being schooled.

He will probably get some more decent fights because he draws money in Glasgow but he won't be beating any actual good world level fighters and hasn't been able to for about 5 years.

With how burns is able to recoup after a loss featured with hearns matchmaking, I can see him winning a vacant title at 147 lol, 4 division champ
