We just lived through the Mayweather era where nothing he accomplished was enough to get credit from a certain demographic.

Being undefeated for years against world class foes, beating Pacquiao, moving up in weight several times etc etc...none of it was good enough.

So now when we see certain boxers pad their resumes against subpar competition and get celebrated as all time greats for it we're like WTF? What happened to the high standards these people judged Floyd with? Where are all the hoops he had to jump through? Why do these boxers get a pass while he didn't?

The realization that race has a lot to do with it is where the animosity starts to come in.

          Truth .

Not only that, but didn't Trump hire some former KKK guy to be a part of his crew or something?

There's actually people on a boxing forum, who make more posts about Trump/have Trump avi's..... some of them were considered "good posters," a few years ago.... its funny how they came out of the woodwork after the election doe

I already have. Mid-80's up until around ten years ago. While racism will never be COMPLETELY non-existent in any era, it has become much more prevalent in the Mayweather era of boxing. Not since the Holmes/Cooney fight have I seen this much racial divide among fans in boxing. Fans are so divided it carries over into which promoters, networks and coaches they get behind.

Racists such as Hopkins, Broner, Rios, Kovalev have a bigger voice today because tool-bags such as Floyd and his twitter rants and ignorant public statements that have lured the casuals in droves and appeal to the worst elements of the sport.

              Exactly.

Speaking of standards, let's not forget that the 'era' before Mayweather. It took a historic foray into the HW division (where even then he was STILL criticized for his opposition) for the 34 year old recognized P4P best fighter on the planet to stop (begrudgingly) getting called 'Reluctant' by certain 'fans'.

Seriously, what would the reaction be if a currently 34 year old Kovalev announced he was challenging, say, Joseph Parker for a HW belt? Do you think people would openly wonder why he picked the 'weakest' champ and didn't fight super heavies like Wilder/Joshua/Fury (the Lewis equivalent).

It is what it is, though.

To clarify: In your world, from the mid 80s until around 2006, racism in boxing was not 'prevalent'.

                Is this your official stance?
