The article is speculation, not an explanation. But yeah of course he does have European ancestry, that's obvious.

I suppose Brazil, to some extent may also be included despite being colonized by Portugal, and Portuguese being their native tongue.

MOST of the people we label "Hispanic" have their ancestry based in Spain, and a small amount of Amerindian blood (whatever group of Indians was native to the lands that the White Spaniards conquered back in the 1400-1500's).

Some are full-blooded Amerindian, although this is pretty rare.

Some families are actually 100% European. Most are prolly like 60/40, or 75/25 European Spanish.

There are small amounts of other Southern (and even Northern) European ancestry as well.


Canelo is probably pretty close too being 100% White-Spaniard. Red-hair is found all around Northern Spain.


If Canelo took a DNA test, he'd most likely find out 90+% of his ancestry is White/European.

And it's a fact that plenty of people in these countries are 100% European heritage.

You can look at somebody and make an educated guess, based on history, of somebody's ancestry.
