Everyone has a side and that is OK too as long as it is based on facts and objectivity. I used to hate the Celtics and Lakers back in the day, but I had face the fact that they were a lot better than the team I liked. Then and only then I appreciated their brilliance. With boxing and promoters and such, it might be best to remember that they are independent business people selling a product. All maner of BS is welcomed and a fancy education is not necessary. Floyd was (is) brilliant at marketing. Harvard business school should do case studies on his approach and have him lecture to the marketing professors from time to time. With the GGG Canelo thing. I think Loeffler overplayed his hand. Abel Sanchez jumping in from time to time did not help.

      Canelo will be over 180

He was likely over 180 for the Cotto and Khan fight.

Seeing as Canelo and golden boy knew once they best cotto that they'd have to negotiate with ggg I think they had enough time to come to an agreement. I know the wbc gave them 2 weeks after the khan fight but I'm sure an extension would've been granted if they had been negotiating in good faith.
Good points. We will probably never the details or the truth. I think there is something to most of the arguments people make up to a point, such as Canelo is waiting for GGG to lose a step. I think they did stall a year or so, but to their credit GB did make an offer. Given the the current market and boxing landscape now they are probably happy K2 turned it down because they are in a stronger bargaining position.

The harsh reality for GGG is that he does not have a natural market in the U.S. no matter how much he talks about Mexican style and how many sombreros he wears. Canelo had to suck it up when he fought Mayweather and then Cotto because Floyd and Miguel had the better bargaining position and they both drove a hard bargain. Canelo fought them anyway knowing it would help him in the long run. All this goes out the window if crazy Chavez Jr. beats Canelo. Then the big money is in the rematch and GGG is once again on the outside looking in.

If Alvarez was fighting 170-175, he'll likely be about that on fight night.

Andre Ward was a super middleweight fighter at the age of 29; once could argue that he was a big super middleweight. He's moved up to light heavyweight, and his body has filled in some, but he's not some massive 175lber now.

Saul Alvarez is already 26 years old; in terms of his body, unless he puts himself through a deliberate bulk, he's likely as heavy as he's going to get. Alvarez is going to fight on fight night, whether it's at 154, 160, or 168lbs, in that 170-175lbs range.
You are absolutely right. He will fight at his best fighting weight and it will not be any different that his previous fights. He will weigh a bit heavier at the official weigh in but not re-hydrate as much overnight.

He desperately needs a fight with Canelo to try to grab the attention of the people and slow down his rapid decline.
Quit making EXCUSES for Canelo. GGG PPV numbers aren't like Canelo but he does sell out every arena. I was at the Jacobs fight and it was a full house. I would love to see Nelo fight on a none Mexican holiday weekend. The GGG fight will do great numbers. No serious promotion needed. It's time for Nelo to fight real contenders. I would like to see him fight the Charlo brothers, Lara, Jacobs, David Lemieux, Chris Eubank Jr, Billy Joe and Demetrius Andrade. All great fights at 154 and 160. First... We need the Triple G fight in September.

Those are all good fights. Let's see if some of them happen. The GGG fight can be made. GB made a serious offer of $15 million, that offer was rejected and countered, then GGG's numbers tanked. I could be wrong, but I believe it is all about the numbers.

Yes. I know. I'm well aware of the pros and cons of both sides of the argument. However, weight cutting today continues to push the boundaries of safety but has the added dangers attached of potentially putting fighters of substantially different sizes in the ring together.

You will also find a significant body of opinion that the reasons for the change were much more to with money than fighter safety, which wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

Just giving my opinion though, man. You gotta make your own mind up.
