It's naive to say there's no racism in boxing. However, I think Ward got some benefit of being mixed. I think he lost respect from the media when he had then lawsuit against Goosen. That helped shape the narrative that he's arrogant. In today's society, arrogant is code word for being "uppity." Yes some white fighters get the benefit of the doubt while blacks and to lesser extent Mexican fighters don't. I always said if Floyd Mayweather was white some folks on here would have him as the ultimate ATG. On the flip side some of the same people that defend him now, would lead the charge to criticize him. If the Golovkin was black he would be lambasted daily for his resume. Race does matter in boxing and Ward is right in most of what he said.

Ward is not liked because his character not his skin color. And I could give dozens of examples of what a jerk he is, but I don't have the time. And the theory theory that Americans rather root for a Russian than an Olympic gold medal winning black guy, its just pain ludicrous. I watched the Ward v Kov fight at an Irish bar full of white folks rooting for Ward.....and most of us booed loudly at the decision. I hear some folks mentioning the body work Ward did....WHAT BODY WORK?? He did nothing but hold and throw short armed punches. I think currently Asians have the most hurdles in boxing.

Asian and to some extent eastern euro fighters have to do a lot more to gain the respect of boxing fans, they're very quickly labelled "hypebeasts" when they're doing well.
