Comments Thread For: Ricky Burns-Julius Indongo: A Quiet Unification

By Cliff Rold - This weekend, boxing's biggest stop won't be in the US. It won't even be in prime time. There will be plenty of action in the States but the biggest fight of the week will happen Saturday afternoon on the American dial (AWE, 2:30 PM EST/PST). For those with access to AWE, it won't be a short day at the fights...

Burns is a nice guy, but it would be a joke if he becomes a unified champion at 140. He isn't near the top 5 of he division (nor would he even be top 5 of 135 if he was allowed to have a weight advantage).

I don't have any faith in Indongo, but I hope he prevents the above from happening. For the sake of boxing, he has to.

I'd love to see Pacquiao-Burns next instead of Pacquiao-Thurman.

I'm rooting for Indongo. Not because I'm a fan all that much but Crawford vs Burn 2... naw

I can see Burns outpointing this guy. He's not as good as Reilikh but sure carries a bit of power. No way Burns gets caught with the telegraphed shot like Troyanovsky did. Ricky isn't on the p4p lists but he is a credit to boxing with his longevity and commitment to the sport.
          Let's go, Rickster.

It's a "quiet unification" because neither are remotely the best in the division and both are lucky to hold alphabet belts. Burns got an undeserved vacant title shot against a cupcake and Indongo had beaten nobody before catching Troyanovsky cold. Burns will get the decision

"For the sake of boxing" ?? How long you been a fan - that is way over the top dramatic.

Burns has been active. You gotta fight the fights to keep your actual ranking and even more so to stay relevant in the eyes of the fans. I don't have any problem with any type of unification. I get more frustrated by people like Saunders who won't get off the pot.

Very true. Most of these fan boys don't realise that without boxers like Burns, Murray, McDonnel, and a host of other fighters - that pro-boxing would be in a much worse place than it currently is. The stars like Crawford, GGG, Ward and Loma can't shine if there aren't solid contender types to shine against.

I will be watching and i'm hoping Burns can pick up another belt.

I have no idea what to expect from Indongo, as his last fight is the only one of his i've seen of his.

I'm sure there will be a lot of guys at 140 looking to fight the winner.

Hold on, wait a gotdamn minute. This is the headline article. Its a unification fight. And there's only eight gotdamn comments on this thing. Where's all of the belt freaks that infest this site. Where's all the freaks that act as if belt unification is the holy grail of boxing? I'm confused. Is belt unification really the holy grail of boxing? Or, is it only important when GGG is chasing some bum with a belt? Because none of you assh0les seem interested in these bums unifying meaningless trinkets.
