Ward was landing repeated jabs to his solar plexus from round 1. When he stopped throwing it in round 2 Kovalev came forward and dropped him. Round 4 he'd landed around 7 blows to the same area.
The body jab has been a staple of both men's offenses, but Ward's proved better. Each time Kov tried to throw his own Ward would just pull out of distance and take the power off them like he did most his shots.
Ward also made him miss A LOT, and Kovalev was holding (not the other way around) to prevent Ward from fighting on the inside. Kov kept trying to pin him on the ropes (you can even see him holding on them), headlocks, holding etc. to prevent Ward from fighting on the inside.
Kov tired because Ward made him tire.
