    You're an idiot.

It's not under boxing's rules, has no association with rankings, and has pro's fighting eachother in a tough man style tourney in ameture length bouts.

It's not the sweet science, and shouldn't be markted as such. It's a side show.

The pay-per-view event has signed heavyweights O'Neil Bell, Shannon Briggs, Chris Byrd, Steve Cunningham, Alexander Dimitrenko, Ty Fields and Samuel Peter. An eighth spot is open and top-rated heavyweights are invited to contact the promoter. A second show is planned in Manhattan in May, 2007, featuring eight world-rated middleweights.

Foreman, who will be joining broadcast partner Colonel Bob Sheridan at ringside, said at the announcement, "Everybody says boxing needs something... (the tournament) is a chance to do something different." Foreman later joked, "I would have beat Muhammad (Ali) if it had been four rounds."

The show will introduce a new scoring system, call time for instant replays and use eight high-definition cameras to capture the action for the pay-per-view audience.
This sounds awsome, Sam Peter, Alexander Dmitrenko, Chris Byrd, Shannon Briggs, sounds like a great event I hope it happens...
i didn't see this thread, and just made a thread...but i think this is good for boxing, if anything its interesting. its been done once before years ago and i thought it was good exciting fights. basicly its like the fighters get to go back to the amature days or their first pro fight. should be interesting.

Pretty soon it will be the toughman competition more people will be joining boxing because tournaments like this where they only have to go 4 fights for a chance at money or recognition or a belt. I say keep boxing the way it is if anything make it mandatory for fighters like Heavyweights to fight once every four months instead of just once or twice a year. It's simple if they dont fight one another they lose the belt or go down in ranking.

I mean boxing is suffering due to the overwhelming decline in "Warriors" and this tournament crap is just a way to get people to watch more fighting. 4 rounds of Slugging it out, people are bored with watching 12 rounds of big guys sitting ontop of one another all night and not boxing when they actually do fight. People lose interest and need 4 rounds of slugging but it wont be boxing. We need warriors again we need Ali's, we need Gatti's, we need Frazier's and Marciano's, we need Dempsey's and Johnsons again and Duran's and Hearns you name them we need them, atleast those types of fighters. Warriors who would go out and fight 3 or 4 fights a year for themselves and the people boxing had feeling.

Now a days with 4 different belt organizations and a new weight class every 4 lbs? Why not put one belt in each weight class or a weight class every 10 lbs and if the weigh in is the day of the fight not before so you gain all the weight back. I know all this has to do with money like all other major sports the same, but we need passion for the sport again but not this way with a 4 round "Professional Tournament" to decide who's who.

I think that it is pathetic and shouldnt be allowed if it happens to take place. Furthermore think about risk of injuries? how is that really smart to have a 4 round fight against 1 guy then again against another guy if you won but are all beat up going against someone who just won by a quick KO and isnt touched at all? It makes no sense and I disagree totally with this, if your going to have a tourney have a real tourney not 4 rounds numerous times in one night this is pro not amateur.
yeah but on the flipside the 4 rounds will force them to fight and to paraphrase runwithknives they won't be able to win and do the safety dance in the ring

There are a lot of violent fighting tournaments that are interesting, but that doesn't make them boxing.

bozo has a point and to some degree I agree with him, but atleast well get to see heavyweights fight. It does seem a like a sideshow, are the dudes that are making this possible paying for everything or is there some way they are going to make a lot of money on it also? It seems to me like their gonna get screwed outta 5 mil...
