    July 23, 2016:

Oleksandr Gvozdyk had to get off the canvas in the first round, but ultimately the top light heavyweight prospect knocked out Tommy Karpency with a body shot in the sixth round to remain unbeaten.

Gvozdyk (11-0, 9 KO) was caught with a right hook from Karpency (26-6-1, 15 KO) in the first round, a shot he never saw coming that put him down, and it wasn’t a flash knockdown, either. Gvozdyk was legitimately hurt and had to survive the remainder of the frame.

From there, though, he was able to take over, frustrating Karpency, who seemed to be upset about his conditioning after the third round. After the fifth round, where he was cut on the bridge of the nose, he went back to his corner looking discouraged. A shot to the liver ended his night the next round, and after the fight he said he had blurred vision from a punch, and chose not to continue.

Hahahaha! Great response. It's tough to judge a fighter's entire career over one moment or even one fight. Didn't Ward, Kovalev and Stevenson all look suspect against Darnell Boone for a moment, a round or even a fight? Anyway, Should be a solid litmus test to see how he does against Yuniesky. Gvozdyk looked solid against Chilemba and I thought Yuniesky could have easily got the nod against Jean Pascal. Either way, looking forward to watching these two trade leather.

Gvozdyk has big time talent. I was surprised when they put him in with Mohammedi so early in his career, but he blitzed him out of there in no time. Then I figured he'd make mincemeat of Karpency, but got dropped and was in a competitive fight before overwhelming and stopping him. His last time out was a very impressive performance against Chilemba. Looked better against him than Kovalev did imo. I'm very interested to see how he looks in this fight against Gonzalez. If he wins impressively, I've gotta think Stevenson will avoid him at all costs. So then, if you want a title, you either have to go for the top dog or after Cleverly's less important belt. I would probably target someone like Barrera or Pascal after this fight if I'm on team Gvozdyk.
