Comments Thread For: Hagler Eventually Wanted No Part of Rematch With Ray Leonard

i believe srl retired thus breaking a rematch clause in the original contract..Hagler got 8 million for his fight with thomas hearns and he got 12 million for leonard which was 1 million more than leoanrd got which was 11 million......when a fighter comes back after 1 fight in 5 years and competes let alone beats an active middlweight champion that alone makes him a notch above him plus he also moved up 5 weights for world titles so yes he is a notch above im affraid to say...the same reasons why golovkin got slated for fighting brook is exactly what marvin hagler did....duran a lightweight , hearns and leonard a welterweight and john mugabi a light middleweight...but unlike brook....leonard pulled it off....BTW the hagler hearns ring was only a 1ft smaller and as i said there were plenty of occasions where leonard stood up to haglers best shots at close range or on the ropes....6,8,9 and 11 for example and hagler couldnt hurt him so the ring is just another excuse.
Most of the guys on here were not even old enough to remember it... i do and i won money on it and another false statement was leonard refused to give hagler a rematch..even before the fight leonard said it was just 1 fight and that was that....but it was only a year after the fight and leonard offered him a revenge fight so again that disproves leonard refused to give hagler a rematch.....leonard might be an a$$hole but his abilty is pretty much unrivalledComment

Boston globe scored 117-111 leonard
New york daily news scored 117-111 leonard
Jeff ryan KO magazine scored it 118-111 leonard
Out of the 25 media score cards leonard won 13 , Hagler won 6 and 6 scored it a draw.
I get it your a hagler fan and i respect that but leonard used his superior speed and inteligence to outbox haglerComment

Gtfoh dumbo.....leonard almost knocked hearns out in the 6th 7th and 8th rounds of there first fight.....leonard stood toe to toe with duran the first fight and lost by a round or so and thats against one of the best infighters in history....know your knowledge dumbo....the rematch leonard moved and stayed off the ropes ....there is no shame in losing a Cllose decision to the greatest lightweight of all time and thats fighting his fight as well....the rematch with hearns leonard admits that hearns deserved that fight but they were a shadow of there welterweight days...leonard done all the damage in the fisrt fight so take your head out your ass and sit down and watch that fight again son...emanuel steward even said it was the body shot that leoanrd landed in the 6th round that ruined hearns....know your knowledge gumboDuran bested him in his prime, fair and square.
Hearns would have beaten him the first time if the fight went 12 rds; Leonard had to wait fatigue to set in before showcasing his "ability"...
He got clearly beat by a shot Hearns the second time.
He got gifted the Hagler fight.
So much for his ability...Comment

Yes i understand that but what im saying is jo joe guerra gets a lot of stick for his 118-110 score card and i was giving example that other media reporters did give simlar cards....i thinks its more 115-112 or at best 115-113 for leonard...i think leonard ...you think hagler ...its a forum fellla and we have different views on the fightComment

Show me where there was a rematch clause and i will show you there wasnt....it was 1 fight for leonard and actually says that on more than 1 occasion...i can also show you a video of bob arum talking in the ring after the fight stateing there was no rematch clause and he didnt know if hagler would ever fight again.....show me the clause or is it another rumour disgruntled hagler fans make up to try and soften the blowComment
