Can't blame him. They should've fought 2 or 3 yrs earlier.Leonard was an arrogant jerk and got a gift. If Hagler was awarded the proper decision there would have been an immediate rematch.
Sugar Ray Leonard has always been a better fighter than Marvin Hagler, Ray was smarter, better defense and he was very fast, Hagler was tougher, bigger and stronger but couldn't match Ray in the other departments, Hagler beat ATGs but they were all guys that moved up to fight him and came up short against a welterweight who was coming off a 3 year layoff.
That night Leonard clearly showed his greatness and that he was the best of that era regardless of who you thought won the fight, just the fact that he was able to do that good shows what caliber of fighter this man was, and no I never liked him as a person either!
hagler went after the dough its plain to see...he had enough leverage to challenge srl on the ring size but i believe he just truly didn't give a 2 cents combined with his belief that srl couldn't possibly beat him regardless of how big the ring is...too bad they didn't fight that immediate rematch but whats done is done
SRL gave him a 50/50 split to ensure he got to select the ring size. Yes, Hagler went for the money because he had never earned the kind of money he always felt he deserved.
I am glad he walked away because SRL was back to his usual f@g acting about fighting and Hagler saw no reason to be part of the circus anymore.
I don't follow Arum much but I didn't think he'd peddle such horse**** as Hagler not wanting a rematch. The guy waited for a year! Then he got tired of the little jiveass playing with his head. Anyway, he had his titles stolen in Vegas. Quite a few fighters--I'm thinking Kovalov specifically--have been ripped off in the ******** capital.
I'm not gonna read the article but going by the title, we all knew Hagler didn't want the rematch. It wasn't cause he wanted to avoid Leonard but because he said **** boxing after that bs robbery.

yeah i am glad hagler walked away, because he probably was a couple fights away from getting beat down, and who wanted to see that...
yeah the sugar man was a funny cat who actually had that beatdown comin...i remember they were interviewing him after the camacho fight, and the excuse was he had an injured calf or something, and had to fly in his doctor...
