Comments Thread For: Alexander Povetkin Ring Return Set For July 1 in Moscow

Former heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin will return to the ring on July 2 in Russia, according to his promoter Andrei Ryabinsky. The boxer is slated to fight an opponent who is ranked in the top fifteen. Last month Povetkin was suspended by the World Boxing Council, after failing two separate drug tests in 2016. The suspension, however, only excludes Povetkin from the WBC rankings or fighting for a WBC title - but it does not prevent him from continuing his career.

"Meldronate is a cardiovascular medicine freely available for purchase at pharmacies across Russia without doctor’s prescription."

Off topic, but anyone besides me pizzed that pretty much every country BUT the U.S. has cheaper and more easily accessed RXs? Feking politicians are way deep in bed with Big Med and Big Pharma. That b.s. HAS to end.

This situation just shows how much of a clusterf#ck boxing is. Guy gets popped for a PED & he's still fighting without a legit suspension by a commission.

And this is gonna be the hole in the WBC Clean Boxing Program (& probably other alphabet PED testing protocols). Theres no teeth to these suspensions. I mean in theory Povetkin could end up fighting for another alphabet group title while suspended from fighting for a WBC title. Thats f#cked up. Commissions need to get on board with this testing & prevent PED'd up guys from fighting once they are caught. Commissions shouldn't allow a alphabet group PED suspended fighter to fight til after they've fulfilled their suspension.

Boxing can't be taken seriously until there is some central elite boxing power that streamlines rules like this into checks & balances thats respected by all parties in the sport.

Brazil be like, "we thought of Povetkin being a boxing commentator at Rio, but then we were like 'all hells nah he wouldn't get the joke!"

What you're suggesting is boxing turns into another UFC basically. Maybe a good idea in theory, but don't look for it to ever happen. Too much cashish being made by and with all the different sanctioning bodies.

Whoever he's facing, I hope they have their PEDs ready because in Russia it's obviously fair play.

Bernie just tried and had the support of a few big name **********s like Cruz and Paul. But Corey Booker and the rest the the corporatist dems and repubs killed the bill.
