Before I can make a decision, I need REAL information. Who had the most PPV, who was the A side the most times, highest gate/fight ratio, who owned who at the negotiating table? Those are things we really need to know

Marquez with ease. I don't know who would win at this point if they fought. Both are getting up there, but Marquez had a better career for sure.

Taking nothing away from Cotto because I believe he's one of the best Rican boxers of all time but I got Marquez if we're talking legacy.

Cotto fought a lot of good entertaining fights but Maquez's KO of Pac will resonate into the future

Cotto does have Mosley, Clottey, Quintana, -- all at 147. Cotto didn't do much at 140 (Mags, meh) or 154

Ultimately, I think JMM had a higher ceiling. He fought Pac on even terms when Pac was the 2nd best in boxing (I had their first 3 fights 2-1 for JMM, but they were all so close they could have gone either way).

He beat a lot of solid to great fighters from 126 to 135 - Salido, Juarez, MAB, Casamayor, Diaz

                  re losses in their prime:

JMM lost to Pac. John fight was BS decision. Mayweather was unnatural weight (but would have lost anyways)
Cotto lost to Pac, Mayweather (no fault in losing here), Trout & Canelo (a little post prime). I don't count the Margarito loss, as it might have been illegitimate.

Both great fighters, I think JMM edges Cotto
MAB and Casamayor were clearly out of their prime
