end of round flurries? Overrated, over pointed

Jacobs did this a lot during the GGG fight, calzaghe did this a lot through out his career, as did floyd.

The idea of making up for 80% of the round via the utilization of crowd pleasing flurries. These flurries are usually combinations which get the crowd going due to a lackluster fight.

I wouldn't be fooled if I was a judge, but why do judges reward this type of tactic so often? A flurry should never make up for being out boxed over an extended period of time. It just doesn't make any sense. Does the crowd influence this?

Smart boxing. Make a statement to bag an otherwise even round

But does it make up for the other boxer moving foward, dominating space, and landing a stiff jab??

It all depends on how much damage is inflicted and how hurt opponent is.. if you flurry and wobble him or worse then yeah you probably won the round

judges usually have alzheimers so the last 10 seconds is prob all they remember

You;re getting at something here. The average fan/person probably only remembers the last 10 seconds...maybe the last 30

No but if it convinces one of the 3 judges ringside then it worked

When I am scoring a round I keep track of who is in front every second. If at the end of the round the two fighters are about even a good flurry of landed punches could give the boxer who threw them that round. If at the end of the round one boxer is solidly ahead the other boxer can't win the round on my card with one good last few seconds of the round flurry. The guy who won the first 2 minutes and 45 seconds of the round wins the round.

I think they're smart. How many times have you watched a close round and have been looking for which guy to give the round to?
I don't think judged should always give rounds based on action at the end but if one guy pulls ahead in a close round, that's great. Less controversy.
