LOL what happened to ortiz vs rios?

all the experts on here said it was going to happen. well what happened? it was a good old fashioned grudge match should have been easy enough to make. did pbc screw up again? I was looking forward to these two punching bags go at it.

If I had to guess, Ortiz probably didn't want it.

I think there was an issue with televising it. Showtime said they wouldn't do it as a main event but was open to doing it as an undercard. I'm guessing they wanted main event money.

I could see that. I mean its kinda like an invisible grudge match in a way with it living mostly on Youtube videos from several years back that only a small segment of boxing fans have probably seen. That sorta grudge can't pay all that well or throw you on top of the card necessarily lol.

They should both retire, both seem like they've suffered some brain damage.

when was the last time that Victor Ortiz was in a boxing gym

The matchup is a grudge match (which would mean alot for folks with rooting interests in the fight), but a win doesn't really do anything to advance either guy.

You add that both guys are going to want to get paid for the fight (Rios got $800k on his last fight, while Victor Ortiz got $750k), and it seems like everything is down to finding a place to put the event.

Hopefully both guys stay in the gym; that way, when PBC brings another big show to California (thinking one of the ESPN dates), Haymon/TGB will have a name fight to top one of those bills with.

With Brandon Rios now apparently being an option for a June date with Miguel Cotto, the calculus changes a bit
