Comments Thread For: Frank Warren: 1 Mill For Crolla To Face Flanagan, is Hearn Joking?

Much as it was a scrap we were extremely keen to put on for the British fight fans, it looks like the Manchester lightweight derby between Terry Flanagan and Anthony Crolla has gone by the board for now, at least. Twice we have tried to tempt Crolla to the table with offers to fight his city rival in a fight which would have resonated far beyond the Manchester boundaries, but both times he opted for the challenge of attempting to overthrow the Venezuelan stylist Jorge Linares.

Crolla-Linares II apparently did really good business at Manchester Arena; Flanagan-Petrov is in the same building and will likely not do good business.

Not all that complicated; Flanagan-Crolla would give Frank Warren a soldout Manchester Arena, and a fight that should draw sizable interest to his own channel (with the public having seen Flanagan's opponent actually fight).

You add that you'd also have the ManU vs Man City rivalry, with the story of both guys "being rivals since their school days" and Frank Warren may actually have a blockbuster handed to him.

If the price of doing that is 1 million (pound or dollars is for the parties to settle in on), then Frank should sit with his numbers, weigh it against the other options available to Flanagan, realize what's in the works, and cut the check

A big fight for Manchester, but Eddie is obviously crazy with that demand

Flanagan-Crolla likely sells out the 21k-seat Manchester Arena, while also giving Fran Warren his first real shot at a truly Box Office-level fight (though Hearn/Sky Sports likely wouldn't put the fight on Box Office).

The initial shock of one million (I'm assuming British pound) throws folks, but people are ignoring the forest for the trees.

Anthony Joshua's O2 Arena fights clear 3m pounds at the live gate; Crolla and Flanagan aren't Anthony Joshua, but their working with a bigger building (O2 Arena only seats 18k), and the rivalry has meaning in the actual city of Manchester.

A million pounds, off of the gate alone, is likely lowballing the number, and that's before you count the UK TV revenue, sponsors, international TV, etc.

I think I'm missing something with this Crolla. He beat Barosso which is a good win but got schooled twice by Linares.

                Exactly.

I know Crolla got paid very well for his last few fights and sells big amounts of tickets in Manchester. Add another Manc fighter into the mix and i really don't think asking for £1m is out of the question.

Hearn's fighters seem to get paid more than Warren's too, usually because Matchroom cards to very well on their ticket sales + Sky. Warren couldn't even sell out half of the arena for Saunders v Lee. £1m might be a lot for a Warren fighter to earn, but Crolla has been on pretty big money for his last few fights.

I really want to see Mikey Garcia vs Linares.

Hopefully Frank Warren doesn't ruin that by throwing around British money and enticing Linares to fight Flanagan instead.
